Default New Baby!

I’m pleased to introduce y’all to my new family member, Victor! He is a Russian Campbell dwarf. The lady I adopted him from thinks he’s about 9 months old. I’m very excited to welcome him home since he’s my first dwarf hamster. The only thing the woman I got him from said was that he has a bit of cage aggression but once he’s in her hand he’s fine. Anyone know how to deal with that?

Sorry the pictures are better quality he’s still a bit nervous and will post better ones in a couple days once he is settled.

Oh, he's lovely! Congratulations!

Cage aggression as in doesn't like hands in his cage?
Easily remedied. Simply let him walk into a hamster taxi like a mug or jug and take him out of his cage that way. Put a treat in it if needed.

Thank you!

Yes, she said he sometimes bites when you have your hand in the cage. I will try the mug idea when he’s settled. Thanks.

I love the image of a Hamster Taxi!

Good luck with your new hammy, Presley.

Congrats on getting Victor! He looks like a lovely little guy.
Biting a hand in the cage is sometimes a problem, some just don't like hands in their territory but it can sometimes depend on cage size, set up & cleaning routines.

Thank you! He was in a small critter trail cage where I got him, so he’s gotten a BIG upgrade to my 650sqin set up. Hopefully that helps. I also got the impression they woke him up to play and would dig him out of his bedding. I did have to pick him up to put him in his new cage and he didn’t bite he was on top of the bedding when I scooped him up. So, I’m hoping it was just startled cage aggression. If not, I’ll try the hamster taxi like Ria suggested.

Thank you. I hope he does too! The hardest part of owning hamsters is leaving them be for a few days. All I want to do it love him haha
