Default Hamster book ! (shakes head dissaprovingly while typing)

I was at a pet store yesterday having a look at all the adorable hammies...but i decided to have a quick look at a hamster care book. The book had a big paragraph about bar chewing...it actually went into all this stuff about why it's best to buy a barred cage so that your hamster to chew on the bars because it's good for them ! it then said that it's alot healthier for your hamster to chew on the bars than to chew on anything else like the chew sticks that you can get at the pet store ! I couldn't beleive that a company would publish that sort of information in a book !

Hmmmm, Well I don’t see how bar chewing can be all that harmful, Might make them loose fur on their nose, but I cant see how its better then giving them a chew stick??

I don’t think that publishing companies really look into books that have to do with pet information; they probably just assume the author has done their research and knows what they are talking about. Editors most likely just care that its well written and the spelling and grammar is right.

Don’t forget that people that write animal information books write from their own personal experiences and what "they" think is best.

If you looking for a good hamster cook I highly recommend "“The Hamster handbook” by Patricia Bartlett."

Sorry Candace I think you mean BOOK

The continued chewing apparently knocks the brain around in their head and can cause some serious cuts on noses and sides of mouths. Furthermore the paint gets flaked off the bars, and if there is any lead in it, this is just as harmful to hamsters as it is to humans, also the bars do not provide a nice solid, even surface for grinding the teeth on, resulting in misshapen and broken teeth. I am sure I have heard more reasons.

OPS!!!

Ha ha "Hamster Cook" LOL!!!!!! Yes I did mean Book hehe

Well close enough, I mean on the keyboard they keys go "c"-"v"-"b" Honest mistake I think...

Ahhhh haha hamster cook

Carefresh, maybe you should see if you could write the author of the book about that or something... Better yet maybe you could put together an article about the dangers or bar chewing for Hamster Central. I dont think many people would think much of bar chewing besides that is annoying in the middle of the night.

I mean I have been doing allot of research and being the forum and site admin I wasn’t aware it could cause brain damage until now.

sure ! I'll start writing one, I'll have to do a bit of research though, because I don't know everything about it, and I dont know know all of the problems with bar chewing. But yes, I would love to write an article.
