Default Are you stocked up?

Hi all. Been a while since I've posted. With everything going on at the moment it's difficult to get supplies. I went through my own hoard and topped up supplies. Have you done the same?

I'm in isolation for 3 months as I'm high risk so got quite a lot.

Also while I'm here I'll update you all with my hams. They're all doing well. Lilith and Athena are comfortable being handled by other people. Ghost is very skittish so not risking that one yet but he's very loving and affectionate with me, I get all the kisses

They're all in good health and have settled in really well. On April 8th I would have had the Syrians 3/4 months. Lilith is showing signs of slowing down now but she's roughly a year and a half or a bit older. She walks on her wheel rather than runs, doesn't climb as much as she used to. Takes her longer to eat her food. She's still well, she does eat everything you give her, still drinking fine and peeing normally. Usual hamster poop machine. I regularly weigh her and her weight has remained stable. Her teeth aren't too long and doesn't appear in pain. I say she's slow but when free roaming she can't half move when she wants to.

To make her home more suitable for her I've removed shelves and made sure food and water is easily accessible. She still has her sand pit and her tunnel plus plenty of bedding and substrate just everything is all one level for her. Is there anything else I should think about with an aging ham? I have porridge oats and baby food for if/when eating is difficult and/or to keep weight on her but at the moment she's fine

Hope you are all well during this period of chaos

Hi there. Hope you're doing ok. It is getting harder to find stocks of things online. One thing I have found that is not out of stock on Amazon is plastic storage boxes So have sent for some and will do some reorganizing and tidying in the house during this period. A lot of clutter can go in boxes in the loft.

I just got a new order with a grass hide, meal worms, chews and dog food so now I just have to make one more somewhere else for some seed mix and I'll end up buying more toys just to make the shipping cost worth it

Sounds like a good idea. Sorting through things and decluttering can be quite soothing. I'm well thank you. I recently ordered some fitch bedding so if you need any, they're still open for delivery. I've binge watched a series and completed a wordsearch book so far so I don't know how I'm going to cope for 3 months.

Dog food has been a nightmare for me. My 2 girls only eat butchers tripe mix and it's quite popular especially where I am so it's difficult to get. Got enough for now but may need to move them onto a homemade diet soon.

I order all my supplies online and my favourite online rodent store hasn't shown any signs that they're low on stock. Here people are mostly stocking up on toilet paper and food, although that's seemingly becoming less of an issue as well because I can now finally get groceries again without half of the items on my list being sold out. It's not a lockdown here so we're still allowed to go to stores, as they have to have safety measures in place. For example, the supermarkets only allow a certain number of customers at the same time to be inside and you have to have a cart in order to keer your distance from each other.

If anyone lives in Europe and is really in dire need for supplies and is willing to pay shipping costs, I could always order something for them! Just let me know. I offer the same for those outside of Europe but then the shipping costs will go up real fast.

I was just thinking of organising all of my hamster stuff tbh, I'm not the most organised person so I might as well do something productive while I have nothing else to do.

Aw that must be frustrating, i'm pretty lucky as I only have one small-ish dog and he honestly couldn't care less what he eats (I make sure it's decent food though!)

My last dog was like that. Literally anything and everything.
All my current dogs are small (under 10kg). The girls will only eat wet food. Theyll go on hunger strike if there's kibble. Bella has only 18 teeth so it's obvious why she prefers soft foods. But they also have intolerances so they can't have lamb, turkey, gluten. Beau my bichon has to have a hydrolyzed diet and nothing else as he's allergic to many different proteins, gluten, goats milk, broccoli. He literally is limited to 2 brands, neither are cheap but cheaper than vets bills.

Have you tried the dog with Burgess sensitive? It’s a bit more expensive than some but it’s hypoallergenic. OH has a farm dog that has problems and has been on Wagg sensitive and ok with that but we can’t get it anywhere at the moment so got the burgess one instead. A few places have it. We got the lamb and rice one. It’s free from all allergens do grain free (just rice) etc. They also do a turkey and rice one. Amazon has it and burgess website as well.

So far i haven't been too affected by the virus personally because i still drive to work as per normal and pick up supplies on my way home.

I work harder because i'm busy creating a new, temporary normality for the people i support who have learning disabilities and miss their day and activity centres.
Work is more fun orientated and inventive. Kitchen Zumba, Crazy Dancing, Bedroom Bingo, an imaginary Café in the dining room where a staff member in a pinny takes the orders and serves cakes we've baked in the cooking class and another is the Barrista who makes the cappuccino are all part of a normal shift now. So its not all doom and gloom.

No one i know has caught the virus yet and the hamsters are fine and not likely to run out of supplies. I did place an extra 85l Kaytee Amazon order for diabetic Percy who drinks and pees a lot and ordered an extra tub of his Rodipet mix just in case there may be delays with orders from abroad in the next few months.
