I can't find any information regarding rescue animals, specifically hamsters and don't know what rules apply in a Lockdown situation.
They are no longer in the pet shops but they are still for sale or going free in the small ads.
It's permitted to walk a dog so would it be ok to collect an unwanted hamster?
If anyone knows where to find an answer please let me know. I think the government guidelines regarding the Lockdown are a bit vague and need to be more detailed. Its almost like they've forgotten about the smaller animals
I agree with AmityvilleHams on this. I think breaking lockdown to pick up animals would only be permissible if the animal is in immediate danger (and it's quite rare for animals on online selling sites to be in genuine danger). An unwanted, but still cared for hamster is not in danger. It's difficult to see hamsters not getting the attention they need, but in the grand scheme of things it's not a big deal compared to the 200+ people dying each day in the UK because of how this virus is spreading. The lockdown is designed to prevent human death and suffering and I would never expect the government to water it down for the sake of hamsters.

I also agree with Amityville. They want everyone to stay at home. Full stop. Going out anywhere means people go places that other people go, touching things, filling up with petrol at petrol stations so mixing with others, and the infection is spread via touching objects. It is a 3 week lockdown at present. If everyone bent the rules (which is happening) there are a lot of people out and about. The key thing in the rules is not to make any journey unless it is absolutely essential and to stay at home. If people start bending the rules it will lead to a much tighter lockdown with police enforcing it more.

If it is an emergency I would call an animal welfare group. If everyone follows the rules there is no chance of infection spreading. Some people are infected without even knowing it for the first two weeks.
