Re: New fur-ball!
It's rare for hams to become overweight as long as you feed the right foods & they remain active, try not to worry about that as it's more important that she gets all the nutrients she needs while still growing & she will need the extra to make a hoard to feel really secure & at home in her new cage.
The boredom breakers roll should be fine, keep an eye on it though as they can go mouldy over time.
I would still give her time to settle for now, spend more time talking to her, if you can put your hand into the detolf at a distance from her when she is out & keep your hand still it should be less of a threat than coming in directly above her, just let her get used to your hand like that for a while, lay a treat on it if you like & if she doesn't come to your hand after a little while leave the treat there so she can make the connection.
If it goes on for too long then taking some of the substrate out may be an option to consider but try to go at her pace for now & see how things go before you change anything.

Re: New fur-ball!
Thanks for your reply. Another trip downstairs in the wee small hours, and she accepted a couple of sunflower seeds from my fingers. Hopefully that's a small sign of progress. I will leave things as they are for a while longer, and try to take things at her pace. Perhaps next weekend I will try to encourage her to wake briefly during the day for a little "friendship time". I do want her to trust me. I will try your idea re the hand and the treat, although I suppose I am almost bound to get bitten while she learns to distinguish between fingers and food.

Re: New fur-ball!
I've actually managed to get some good photos of Freya at last. Here she is at around 10 weeks old.

Re: New fur-ball!
She is so beautiful! If I'm not mistaken she has the prominent 'Roman nose' feature that is characteristic of winter white hybrids.
What a lovely little one she is!
