Monty and the sparrow
Just thought I'd share a very funny incident that happened this evening... My wife was cleaning the cage in which we have been putting the baby sparrow that we've been looking after and I was keeping the sparrow occupied (he was perched on my finger) so I decided to show him the hamsters.
Monty was being demanding and was standing on her back legs chewing her bars and I brought the sparrow near to Monty's cage to show Monty the sparrow. Totally unexpectedly the sparrow pecked Monty on the nose!
Monty let out a long and indignant squeak (just like a mouse) and fell over backwards onto her substrate. She kept squealing and wiggled onto her side.
After a few seconds she got up and immediately burrowed down into her substrate.
I felt really bad for her as she's such a sensitive little soul but at the same time it was very very funny.

Re: Monty and the sparrow
I know that i shouldn't laugh, sorry Monty but i couldn't help it!! You'll never see a scenario like that again. The little sparrow must have felt invincible while perched on your finger.
You may have found a cure for bar chewing.

Re: Monty and the sparrow
Haha indeed! Depending on Monty's memory span it might well have cured her of her bar chewing!

Re: Monty and the sparrow
Did Monty get over her sparrow attack? Has she surfaced yet? I can imagine that she was well put out by the cheek of this bolshie little bird.

Re: Monty and the sparrow
She emerged late last night for a mealworm and I saw her fresh veggies were all gone in the morning. It's been quite cold here today so she has typically been in one of her nests all day. I think she's gotten over it though!

The sparrow. He/she (we think its a she) has all her feathers now but still flaps her wings to be fed as baby birds do. She's starting to take to eating seeds and crumbs now too. 20200224_211519_resize_58.jpg

Re: Monty and the sparrow
Photo shows up the right way on my phone.
A proper little bird now with feathers and all. Must be fascinating to watch a wild bird flourish like that. I wonder if she'll fly away one day....

Re: Monty and the sparrow
I hope she can integrate successfully into the wild one day. She's certainly made herself at home, making a big noise flapping her wings and demanding worms whenever she sees us!
