Default Bordeom Breakers

Did anyone else see Erinsanimals video re Tiny hamster paws box the other week?

She showed how to turn pinecones into quick boredom breakers.

I had never thought of that before. so I broke up one of Star's xmas garlands and made her a quick boredom breaker, They are brilliant. All you do is add a bit of hamster safe jute/sisal or whatever, hang them up, add food!

I made a little video on it if anyone is interested, I was just wondering have any of you done this before? It is so simple and quick. I can't believe I hadn't thought of doing this before, I love it when something makes you think. Now I will analyse everything I own, can it be turned into a hamster boredom breaker(ha, as if i didn't do that already)!!!

Aww, what a great idea! She's loving that!

It's great fun to create something useful. I've just made a guinea pig hidout from a cheap washing up bowl, for a rodent rescue.

Love the pinecones, even if they go at it for a while they last.

That's brilliant Ria. good way to recycle too. Your local rescues are lucky to have you.

Well, Star hasn't destroyed it yet! She still has an epic 5 toilet roll tube boredom breaker that has lasted months. I just keep putting food in the holes.

Luna, Erin specifies "hamster-safe" pine cones. Does one have to buy them like that, or could I just collect them from the garden? Also, could you please let me know whether the jute or sisal is safer than normal string?

Yes i believe jute and sisal are safer than something that is just labeled 'string'. I think string covers all sorts of types of thin rope but not all are natural and break down if digested. If you live in the UK you can get a roll of jute from Wilkos for about a £1-£2.
The pinecones I used were left over from a petsathome xmas garland. Someone told me that Erin did a video on how to make your pine cones safe.
I have not watched it - but I put a link

I can see the Dremel was put to good use there!
