Question Travelling via a train with a hamster

Hello!
I'm not a hamster parent yet, but am gathering all the information about them to make sure I can provide a hamster with everything they need. So I have a question about travelling.

I have looked at travelling cages and would get one for the purpose, but most info I've seen about travelling with hamsters is about car rides. I travel via a train to my partner every few weeks (I'll go there for 2-3 weeks, then come back for 1-3 weeks depending on needs). The travelling takes 4-4.5 hours in trains, then around 20 min in a car that way and an hour in a car and 4 hours in trains on the way back. We would set up a very large crate in his house and a smaller (but double the minimum size) cage in my home as I'm there more now and we are looking at moving in together so we will only need 1 fancy place for the hamster in the future. I would bring the hamsters bedding into the travel cage and to the cage he/she is being transferred to and back so it's familiar always. I'd provide a hiding spot, food, cucumber, chewies for the trips.

But the question is-is this kind of frequent travelling ok for a hamster? Will it be too much and too stressful or will they feel content in the travel cage? Will being in a cool, windy train station be ok for a hamster too? I can always spend time in the waiting rooms, but the stations here in UK are quite windy and open so I'd be spending some of the time on platforms. It can get hot on the trains in the summer too. While I can provide a warmer or a cooler pad inside the cage, I'd want to be sure I can bring them with me on these travels before I really decide I can get a hamster at this point. If not, I'll have to wait.

Thank you for any info you can give me or tips to make these trips good enough for a hamster to be content and happy being taken along because I wouldn't want to leave him at my partners place without me. It is a purely selfish thing because I would love the hamster far too much to just leave for a couple of weeks and wouldn't want them to think I'm some stranger that visits once in a while.

That kind of journey would be fine as a one off but not at such frequent intervals, changing home & cage like that would be very stressful for a ham too. If you're planning on moving in together then I think it would be fairer on a hamster to wait until you're living in one place permanently.

I'm sorry to say that I think this would be far too much travelling for a little hamster. They would just start to feel safe and secure in one home, then you would be taking them off to another home. Constantly doing this with long trips with lots of noises would be very stressful and not fair on the hamster. It wouldn't understand what was going on. Maybe wait until you and your partner can live together, or just leave the hamster at your partners. I know you said you didn't want to do that, but like you said that was you being selfish, in this situation I think you need to be putting the hamsters needs first.

Maybe at the moment a hamster is not the right pet for you with what you need for it to work for you and your partner.

I'm sure it will be worth the wait to have a happy ham!
