Conversely, that is 'nature' and while they are wonderful and adorable creatures, hamsters are still governed by animal instincts which are far removed from our own. I guess it is also really hard on an owner as they must wonder what,if anything, they could have done differently?

Knowing that a hamster has found a loving home and getting regular updates however must be so rewarding.
When I went into breeding I made sure I learnt about some of the things that could go wrong fairly early because I figured that if I couldn't handle that then there was little point in learning anything else. It was hard to have the litters culled but I understand the instinct behind it. When Embers culled her litter in April last year, I don't really know why she did it but several months on on it became apparent that it was probably for the best and Sammi, who was my phantom pregnancy, went on to develop some kind of bowel disorder and now needs special food.
