Default Squinty Hamster

hey everyone! i'm not entirely new to hamster care, as i used to own a few hamsters when i was a kid, but can safely say i know much more about hamster care now. my mother and i just rescued a hamster off of craigslist in our local area, as the size cage she was in was perhaps the smallest cage i've ever seen.

we currently have her in a bin cage, with plans to get a bigger and better bin cage (well over the 450 min) this upcoming sunday, once the next pay period begins!

upon checking her over we noticed that she seems to 'squint' with one eye, which immediately makes me wonder if she has some kind of eye injury, or perhaps might even be blind in that eye. currently, i don't know of any vets in my area that treats small animals, as i live in a very small town. she seems to be behaving normally, eating food and making nests in her preferred house, and being generally nervous like hamsters always are when you first bring them home (something i hope to see improve once we get her a larger habitat, wheel, and plenty of toys)

i'm just looking for suggestions right now, of course. we aren't the type of people to go out and pick up animals at the drop of a hat, but seeing an animal suffering is hard to ignore when you know you can provide a much better home for them. are there any 'at home' things i can do to try and clear up anything (a friend of mine suggested looking into things like eye drops, but i don't want to do anything dangerous myself) or should i look around in hopes of finding a vet who could treat her?

i'll link the best picture i have of her eye below, and hopefully, it's good enough to give you an idea! her other eye seems perfectly fine.

Might be like having a sleep in her eye. Get some lukewarm water and a cotton pad and gently wipe over the area.

Here's a few questions (sorry there's a few)
Is she eating, drinking and toileting ok?
Is she still active or is she sleeping a lot more?
Do you know how old she is roughly?
Does she allow you to touch her face?
If you gently move the eye lids is there any redness?
Is this something new, or something she's always had while you've has her?
What bedding are you using?

My hamster has a squinty eye and no one knows why. Nothing irritating it. Not red, inflamed or sore in anyway. She can see out of it. Something she's always had while she was in rescue. Sometimes it becomes sticky so warm water and a cotton pad is used to help with that. Sometimes she has eye drops to help too. She just looks like she's constantly grumpy.

hey! we just got this hamster under a week ago, so i'll do the best i can to answer your questions!

she's definitely eating good, drinking is a bit harder to determin as we currently give her just a bowl of water and i'm bad at gauging how much it's gone down, as i refill it every day with fresh water.

she definitely seems active! i see her out and about in her cage a lot, she likes to chew on her wooden bridge and i've let her run around on my desk a few times.

the lady we got her from said she should be around 1 year old.

she does let me touch her head/face, and inspecting the eye it doesn't look red. the eye itself looks very cloudy which i don't think comes across in the pictures, it almost has a white tint to it (which you'd normally see in someone/thing thats blind)

her eye was like this when we rescued her

we currently have her on a paper based bedding! i believe it's an offbrand carefresh kind that our local walmart sells

If it's cloudy I'm wondering if she has got cataract or had something in her eye that has caused it to go like that. It's probably worth taking her to the vets and getting their opinion, they might be able to give you some medicine for it or at least tell you what is going on with the eye.
