Re: Meet Ghost
I weighed Ghost again today and he has maintained his weight of 155g. He too seems small despite the fact he's quite a large Syrian.
He also gave me lots of kisses and started to groom me today. Maybe he does like me after all. Still can't believe he bit me when we first met though. Nevermind.

Re: Meet Ghost
Well I've been up all night trying to stop ghost escaping his cage. He's figured out the lid has some give (he's in a bin cage btw). Looks like I'm cleaning out and moving hamsters about today sigh

What kind of bin cage do you have? I believe that there are clips available to keep lids in place.

Unfortunately he started chewing the plastic in the corners too
I tried moving things about so he couldn't reach the lid. He's a lot bigger than he looks. When he properly stands he's easily over 6" closer to 7". But he has a minimum of 6" of bedding to burrow so I can't remove any. The bin is 70x 40. I know, too small tut tut but I don't have room for another 80cm cage
So my solution which is working so far, is Niko my robo is in the bin. Everything from the zoozone has some how found somewhere to go in there.
Lilith is now in the zoozone. She kept sticking her nose through the bars so she's now in the ZZ and hopefully she'll be happier ( she's gained roughly 200sq inches)
Ghost is in the p@h cage (XL one. Just shy of 500sq floor space. I've added a level and essentially filled the cage so hopefully he'll be happy there. By the way I know the hanging ladder thing isn't 100% safe. He had one in the rescue and loved it. He likes to climb so I figured he could chew it as well as it's wood, rather than climbing the cage bars

Re: Meet Ghost
I like the way you set things up. It works.
Meant to ask you. How does Ghost groom you? Does he lick you? Never heard of that before.

Thank you. You know when your ham grooms themselves. Licking and nibbling almost combing their hair with their teeth? That's what Ghost does to me. Doesn't hurt. I let him continue doing it as I see it as a bonding exercise

Re: Meet Ghost
Been a while since I have updated so I'll fill you guys I'm with what's been happening.
Trust building and taming has taken a little bit longer for Ghost. He's quite a shy, skittish boy. If you move to fast he'll dart to the nearest hide. He's scared of the sound of plastic too. I don't know why. The others know crinkle of plastic=food.
He's not happy being handled if there's anyone else in the room... literally jumps from my hands and back into his cage and hides. When it's just me and him he's a sweet guy. I get kisses and he grooms my hand. He'll take food from my hand and will come up to me when I'm talking to him.
He is a very active boy when he wants to be and really runs on his wheel, my other Syrians kind of jog. He has adjusted to drinking out of a bowl well despite using a bottle most of his life. He likes his veggies and has a healthy appetite. He's not very selective on what he eats, maybe on the order he eats things but that's about it. So I can't really complain.
Today for the first time he's started nest making and chewing cardboard. He doesn't seem to chew a lot despite having a variety of chew toys but his teeth aren't overly long so he's obviously wearing them down somehow.
It has been a month since I've got him so despite everything I think he's doing well. He's also gained 50g, probably could get away with gaining a bit more weight but I'm not too worried about that.

Re: Meet Ghost
I haven't updated ghosts thread for a while so here we go.
Ghost is more active after 1am so I don't see him much but when I do see him or clean him out he does like a snuggle. He's roughly a year old now and is very active and loves his food. He's not a picky eater and will eat everything leaving a few crumbs in his nest.

Re: Meet Ghost
Lovely to hear that he has learned to trust you and is so relaxed in your company. You obviously take very good care of your animals. Very nice photos of a handsome boy.
