Default Meet Lyric

Lyric is a female Syrian which I adopted from a rescue today. She's about 15 months old and was put in rescue as an unwanted pet. Unfortunately she has spent most of her life in rescue and foster care with many others finding homes. I don't know why she's been overlooked as she's a real sweetie. She does have a squinty eye but nothing to worry about. (I've got eye drops). She isn't a fan of being held but we can work on that.

(I think she's in heat as she smells weird :/)

aww she looks gorgeous. Great you have given her a lovely home x
I would however keep a close eye on her because the eye issue and the odd small can be the first signs of a pyometra. The in heat smell should not linger beyond a day so if she has any discharge or smells bad all the time then you do need to have her checked out.

Aww, finally she's found a good home. Can't wait to see more photos of her. She's got a lovely, velvety face.

Soo, i remember you saying that you were going to adopt two syrian females. What made you decide to take Ghost home as well?

Will do. How long does the heat cycle last? I know they come into heat every 4 days ish. I've also read small amounts of discharge can also mean going into heat? She has got some, which is clear. She had a health check yesterday so if it was an ongoing issue surely the rescue would have said something? Or is that me being too hopeful???

It does take time and depends on the individual too. The rescue noted that Lyric isn't a fan of being handled but keeps climbing onto my hand before I can close the door...but I'm putting that down to being in heat. Wanting out of the cage and I just happen to be there

The come in to heat every 4 nights normally and it usually losts only a few hours. An infection usually shows as a profuse brown or yellow discharge which smells nasty. She should not smell much tomorrow evening. It could be just that she is smelling the other hammies and sending out scent signals. Try stroking her back and they normally stand with their tail up if they are in heat.

I will state I AM NOT GOING TO BREED THEM! (Just incase anybody is thinking that way).

I wasn't going to adopt him, kind of a last minute decision. I was just going to get the girls but when I saw him in person he reminded me of my rat Klaus who died 2 years ago. It was like, I got to take him home too

Her discharge has no colour to it and very thin. Not infection like at all in my opinion.

She didn't smell in the car this afternoon, I noticed it about4 hours ago but it was quite strong then. Her enclosure doesn't smell and it's not so strong now, just a bit now and again. If it's the same tomorrow night I'll get in contact with the vets to be on the safe side. Her tail does raise slightly and she kinda freezes so I'm guessing she is.
