Default Mrs. Nibbles is stuck in a wall *SHE MADE HER WAY OUT! - she's found now!

Long story short my hamster is stuck in a hole in between my bathroom cabinets and a wall. She has been there for about 10 hours now. I cut a hole and I know she can get out because she got halfway out then went back in. I put her ball outside of the hole with bedding and peanut butter around the edges. She is staying at the back of the corner and occasionally moving and making sounds. But the sound she is making is a screech? I honestly don't know. She lives in 2 tubs connected by piping for hamster cages. I don't know how she got out because the tops were on both cages, so she must've gotten them open enough for her to escape. I'm panicking. 1. Because she isn't opening her eyes 2. because I cut a hole in the wood and my dad is going to kill me. 3. If she never comes out and dies in there how would I even get her out? My dad doesn't know I'm 18 btw. I'm scared about her not opening her eyes anymore and her not moving as much. She does have food. And I put water by her escape route. At this point do I just have to wait and pray that she comes out? Do you think she will come out at night? She seems stressed (obviously) so do you think she might just try to be resting right now? I'm freaking out.

Hi. It’s good news if she can get out. Best thing to do is set up a bucket trap near the hole. Overnight that should do it. Google bucket trap. Basically you have a bucket. Next to it you pile books to make shallow steps so the hamster can climb the steps to the top of the bucket. On the top step you have a 12” ruler (there may be something similar you can use instead). It rests part on the top book and part over the top of the bucket. Put a smelly bit of food on the end of the ruler that is over the bucket. Put a towel in the bottom of the bucket for a soft landing. Scatter food or sunflower seeds up the steps and nearby - maybe a trail from her hole.

In the night she should climb up to get the cucumber and fall in the bucket as the ruler tips up.

Try not to worry about her eyes being closed - she is probably sleeping.

Hi! I don't have room to stack books that's one problem I am facing. Where she is the toilet is right in front of it. Also, I thought she might be sleeping too, but she will move around with her eyes closed and eat with them closed. She's normally active around 7pm, so maybe by then she will get bored or run out of food then decide to come out. I guess I can try to put books out though!

Are you able to sit up at all and wait for her. Once she is fully out try and get something in front of the hole so she can't run back in or try and throw a net curtain over her and quickly wrap it close round her and scoop her up in it. Some hamsters will come out to their cage so can you leave it on its side with all her bedding in there and when she walks in quickly tip it up so she falls back in the box. It won't be fun but good if you can get her. They do tend to keep eyes shut in the dark but if she is making an odd noise she may have an injury. I would stay up and see if I could catch her if I were you

Yes, I can stay up! I was planning on doing that. I wouldn't doubt if she's hurt because she fell out of her cage, fell off of the ledge her cage is on, fell into the hole where she is now and she climbed up the wall and then fell. I intend on taking to her a vet, once I find one that will do hampsters. Tonight I can try tipping her one cage and see if she will wander into it! Right now she nudged into the back of the hole sleeping, so hopefully, by tonight she will get up and attempt to get out.

To be honest this is my worst fear with owning small animals. I take it you can't get you hand in or an instrument like a spoon to get behind her and gently coax her out?

Pff I wish I could, where she is, is too far back, plus the hole is too small and I can't cut anymore. (I'm trying to play it off that the hole was always there if my dad finds out about it. I set her cage up right next to the hole, but she's still asleep. I put her house right where she can see it plus food and water. She is breathing and occasionally eating so that is good. Hopefully tonight she decides to make it back to her house once she realizes it's there. If not.... well I might be kicked out. It just sucks. I thought I did everything right. But nope she was able to open the lid enough to get out.... It just sucks.

It's all just a big waiting game. I mean eventually, she will have to come out right? Lol who am I kidding she can stay right there if she really wants to.

I have always managed to tempt them out of somewhere with a long-ish rat sized tube with cucumber at the far end. Means sitting waiting. When she goes into the tube (it should move a bit). You need to get your hand over the end near the hole quick and your other hand over the other end and lift the tube with her in it then take her somewhere secure. Something like a Pringles tube could be good (or two joined together so it's longer).

Some people have also put the hamster's wheel out nearby where they are with some food in - she may come out to use the wheel - although it could be harder to catch her as she could jump out again.

Other people have put the cage near the hole as the hamster likes to go back to the cage and their familiar nest. Although if you have a bin cage there's no front door to leave open for her to get back in.

Could you set up the bucket trap and books in front of the toilet? It doesn't have to be right in front of the hole. She'd come out and find the food and climb up (although do keep the toilet lid down - don't want her falling in the toilet climbing up the books!).

Wishful thinking then eh? Playing it off as it was always there? Made me chuckle.

Pouches full of food? She's going to camp it out, she's in it for the long haul, it'll be a while. Lol let us know how you get on
