Default How many water bottles should you provide?

Hi everybody.

This may be a stupid question but is one water bottle sufficient in a cage or should you provide two in case the one fails?

Thanks!

I wash it every morning and make sure it’s working, so one is enough. Eventually I would like to switch to a regular bowl lf water as it is more natural.

One bottle per cage here too
I keep an eye on the bottles and make sure they are working. When I've refilled each bottle I give it a shake (spout down) in case any air is trapped. If I get water on the floor then that's good! I use the 'classic' bottles as I've experienced least random failure with those (excluding when hamsters push their substrate into the spout overnight). I wanted to move to glass bottles for ease of cleaning but all of those jammed without warning so plastic it is for me.

I only use one per cage here too and make sure they're working when I put them back into the cage after filling. I tend to know roughly how much each of my hamsters tend to drink so if I were to notice anything out of the ordinary, I would double check the bottle.

Thank you for your replies everybody. My concern was sparked by a move to the Ferplast Sippy bottles which one of my hamsters proved she didn't know how to use. I went straight back to the traditional 'ball and spout' bottles but it got me thinking about contingencies in the event that a bottle was to fail.

I do check their bottles every day and give them a test for functionality using a finger so one should be ok.

When we go away and a friend house-sits I think I will add an extra bottle per cage just in case.

One bottle per cage here too. Checked every day to make sure they're working. Even when I'm away and someone hamster sits for me they still only get one bottle because the pet sitter should be checking every day anyway

My pet sitter knows where my box of spare bottles lives - and has noticed and replaced faulty bottles (in my era of glass bottles), leaving a note on the defective one so I didn't try to use it again. I have enough spare bottles that 1/3 of my hamsters' bottles can fail when the shops are shut which is highly unlikely!

One for singly house rodents, two for groups like the lady mouse's. All checked and refreshed daily. I do place an extra on each cage when I go away as I once had a no show of a 'pet sitter' and I was unable to get back and it's since made me paranoid ( I got someone else in and everyone was ok but I now don't go away for more than 3/4 nights just in case)
