Question Remove bedding’s smell?

Has anyone have experience buying Carefresh natural colour, and it smells sooooooo strong like the Chinese dried fruit snacks, trying to expose it to lessen the smell. Any suggestion to remove the smell more efficiently?

There’s no big pack of white Carefresh here so I can only get this for now. Regretted so much.

That doesn't sound right - it shouldn't smell like that - can you take it back? It may have been in bad storage. I would take it back and get something else. Amazon sells Kaytee Clean and Cozy (make sure it's not a scented version). This is a large bale

I use Fitch which works out much cheaper as it's sold in bulk - it's like Carefresh but better and no dust at all. The 10kg bag isn't too big to find a home for and it lasts ages and saves a lot of money. You can order it direct from the suppliers or from Amazon.

So the price of the Fitch is the same as the large bale of Kaytee Clean and Cosy but you get a heck of a lot more for the money.

How big is the size of fitch 10kg bag compare to the 60litre Carefresh?

I've found some of the natural carefresh has had an odour to it before. I used to use Fitch but found the quality became more variable and the customer service wasn't what I expected. I either get the white/coloured Carefresh or the Kaytee if I need a soft paper substrate, e.g. for post-operative hamsters.

It seems like you had some problem with Fitch. Do you mind to share your experience?

I like the Kaytee C&C because it doesn't have the weird smell Carefresh can have (i had the same experience as you), its nice and soft and expands so much that it goes a long way.
Its compressed and when you fluff it up you end up with three times as much.

I get it from Amazon or nip down to Porton Aquatics (interesting shop to visit) near Salisbury. P@H usually stocks it but its cheaper on Amazon.

I think some people have had issues with variable quality in Fitch - it was sometimes not so soft and a different colour - I found that a few years ago but haven't had a problem for the last couple of years so have kept using it. But I do have two large cages so use a lot and prefer to buy in bulk - I really like the Fitch but the Kaytee clean and cosy is nice as well. Very similar I find. How big is your cage?

The 10kg Fitch bag is about the size of a child's beanbag chair if that helps Not too big. The 20kg bag is huge. The 60litre of Kaytee C&C is a lot less substrate but would last quite a while depending on the size of your cage.

I buy the 85L bags of white Kaytee C&C, theyre around £20 on amazon and porton aquapet. Each bag can fill 2 80 x50cm cages with 6 inches of bedding, or 1 cage and plenty left for spot and partial cleans.

There's your answer So it is probably a bit more expensive than Fitch per quantity but depends how much you need.
