Default Fireworks

It’s getting to the time when people are letting off fireworks and I was wondering if I need to do anything to help my hamsters, or if fireworks really affect them. My Russian is very anxious in general and I’m worried that loud noises will really scare him. Are they affected and if so what can I do to help them all out?

Eddie is quite timid but quite unphased by fireworks. I on the otherhand get very scary having had bad experiences. I tend to play loud heavy metal music, close all the curtains and take medication if it's very bad. I have a lot of sympathy for animals that struggle on bonfire night and New year's. I'm of the ilk that wishes to make them illegal. A further recommendation is to provide lots of distraction such as a big whimzy to chew or a good boredom breaker.

Chances are your hamster will stay in his house or underground so shouldn't hear all that much.

The fireworks are going off here right now and my two dwarves are underground. My Syrian is in his house and i've just lifted off the roof to see if he's alright to find him rolled up and asleep in his nest.

In almost eight years I've only ever had two that have had issues with fireworks and in most cases, if your hamsters are unsure, they'll tend to hide away in their nests.

If you're worried though you can play some music for them and if there's a particular style of music you normally listen to then I often find that works best at maintaining a level of familiarity. I had Queen on for mine last night.
Other things you can do are giving them extra nesting material and hides in their cages so they can make themselves a really snug nest.
