Need some advice about Charlie, a burrower

Hey guys! Nothing urgent, just thought I would ask:
Charlie, my hamster, usually used to sleep in his hut. Within a month or two, he has been piling bedding up in the corner and sleeping deep down under it. I know hamsters burrow and this is normal, so I removed his hut and when I clean his cage I put extra bedding in the corner.

Again, I’m not concerned about him burrowing. I was just wondering if there are any safety precautions for burrowing hammies, or if you guys have any advice. Thanks for reading!

Personally, i'd leave the hut in because hamsters sometimes change their minds.

Both my dwarves sleep underground and yes, there are safety precautions.

You need to make sure that anything heavy like a big sand bath etc is supported so it can't topple over should the hamster burrow underneath it. I use the Ferplast guinea pig houses minus the front panel to support my Robo's heavy sand bath on one end of his tank and a large ceramic mushroom on the other. These houses are inexpensive and have a lift off roof so i can easily spot clean when needed. My Robo uses his house like an entrance porch that leads down a tunnel.
My dwarf Hybrid has a table and often sleeps underneath it. On top is his ceramic mushroom and bottle plus a flat stone. The top comes of too (DIY item).
These supports are submerged into the substrate.

Burrowing hamsters often have more than one tunnel and sleeping place so its important to secure all heavy items.

It's quite amusing to watch their little faces peek out from a hole in the substrate and then watch their tails disappear down a tunnel.
