Cleaning wooden toys
Cadmium has the delightful habit of peeing in her nest (I'm working on toilet training her) but one of her favourite hides, a wooden chamber house, now smells of pee Do I need to replace it or can it be cleaned? I know some wooden toys can be soaked, but as far as I know, if the toy has bark on and you soak it, it can fall off
Any advice would be appreciated

Re: Cleaning wooden toys
If it is just the base of the hide that has pee on it, can you knock/take it off. Probably easiest. That's what a lot of people do with those type of hides.

Re: Cleaning wooden toys
My hamster pees in his corner toilet but his aim is rubbish, he's a male hamster, so the walls get pee'd on too sometimes. I use the Ferplast guinea pig house so can replace individual walls with new ones and soak/wash the old ones in hot water and mild washing up liquid then rinse and dry. They seem fine and don't smell.
Maybe the water disolves the glue of the bark houses. I'd try washing them without submerging the bark roof before buying a new one.
Good luck with the toilet training, you'll need it because hamsters can be quite set in their ways.
