That's where he's living at the moment until i get something else sorted. He sleeps under the teahouse which has two entrances and is full of substrate or under the table at other side of bin.
It seems that the only place he feels secure is burried deep into substrate under some kind of shelter.

10Minutes, i'm not going to look for a homeless Chinese hamster, lol.

I'm just wondering...Percy's little cage was placed right next to the cage of another hamster and the cages were within the display enclosure of the pet shop.

Could that have affected his temperament?

Serendipity has a good point, maybe a cage with a front opening would work better.

Oh, my hamster does that too, I originally placed one of her hideouts on the substrate but she "renovated" it herself so that the hideout is now completely underground except for the roof and she accesses it by her own burrow. I left it underground as she clearly likes it that way, plus she has other hideouts on the substrate to switch to if she wants.

Not sure why he is aggressive but hopefully a bigger cage and more time with you will help.

I've just ordered the Savic Hamster Sky Metro for Percy and need to order stoppers or covers for the tube ends.

Does anyone know where to order them?

I've looked on Amazon but can't find any.

Quick update on Percy the untamed dwarf:
Today i gently stroked Percy's back with one finger while he was chewing on his whimzee and he didn't try to bite me...but every time i stroked him he gave himself a shake!!
Haven't seen that kind of reaction before.

Update on Percy: well, the Savic Metro arrived and the base looked kind of warped, kept sliding on the table it was meant to sit and didn't feel right for Percy. Hard to explain, probably too different from what he's in now so i returned it. He's still in his bin but i have added more enrichment, see photo and he has a new wheel with a sturdier base because he somehow managed to almost knock his Kaytee Spinner over.
I'm still looking for an upgrade that has Percy written on it.

Percy appears a little more settled, comes to the window for treats and likes out of cage time in his play pen. I am trying to get him used to touch by using a soft pastry brush (thanks for the tip Serendipity) and have even stroked his back briefly with my finger without it getting bitten off.

Yesterday i cleaned his cage because it was miffy and he went nuts!! Put him in a box while i washed out his bin and he kept jumping up the sides. Put him in the play pen and he bit and head butted the panels then dug underneath them trying to get out so i put him in his bin cage while i was setting it up. Everytime i put more substrate in incl some old one, he came charging like a little bulldozer and dug it all up again. I put his freshly sieved sand pit in and he dug in it, rolled in it with sand flying everywhere, put his wheel in and Percy was on it. Add bendy ladders and Percy was zooming over them and under them so i offered a mealworm to pacify him which he ate in two seconds and then continued to dig various holes with substrate flying around him. The scenario was almost cartoonish.
BUT with all this happening and my hands in his bin, he did not once attack or try to bite my hands!
Once the set up was completed and exactly the way it was before, apart from the fact that it looked like a bomb called Percy hit it, i left him to it and went to clean Henry's cage.

Henry very calmly sat in his coconut in a box, poked his nose out now and again to check on progress and then went back to his house after pouching some toilet paper strips to make his bed and go back to sleep. No drama whatsoever.

Some hybrids have been known to have mental health issues, besides physical problems such as diabetes. He might be one of the unlucky ones. Maybe you won’t be able to handle him but he sure will have a good life with you !

Now i feel a right hypocrite after telling people how unhealthy tubes are and advising them against using plastic tubes.

Percy has a tube running along the front of his bin cage, how controversial is that.

After removing all wooden items from his bin including the long ladders he liked to run over because of his diabetes i felt that i had to give him a plastic run of some kind so went to P@H then got the Dremel out again to create holes to feed the tube through. The two short access tubes (one tube cut into halves) on the inside i have lined with toilet roll tubes and the outside one i can dismantle to wash with a bottle brush when needed. He run through the tube twice then carried on with his favourite activity of bulldozing. He burrows horizontally rather than vertically so open, unobstracted floorspace is more important than depth of substrate.

I'm slowly getting to know Percy. When he's above ground he's not one to sit in a hide but moves around and runs through the seesaw tube or rolls in the sand if he's not on his wheel so i'm trying to think of more washable enrichment without intruding on his burrowing space. Maybe i'll add some small plastic shelves to hop on to or attach a plastic corner toilet to act as something to sit under (not that he would) and climb into, line it with moss or attach a shute.

Amazing set-up.

I'm not using plastic tubes at the moment, but I don't find them a problem unless the hamster chooses to nest in there, or they are super-chewers. Otherwise, for a quick zip through, they are great fun for the hamster. My Syrian enjoyed his when he had them. The P@H ones come apart for washing too. In fact, I think that's the massive advantage of plastic things, they can be kept much cleaner.
