Default My hamster is still scared of me

[IMAGE][/IMAGE]I’ve had my new Russian dwarf for around four weeks. Bandit is super cute and a funny little guy to watch. But I’m really struggling with bonding. When I hold him, he acts like my other two hamsters did the first time I held them, except I’ve had him for four weeks. He escaped on the first night I had him because I forgot to make sure his door was locked into place. I keep beating myself up over that, even though I know mistakes happen and that previous mistakes like this haven’t had any consequences for my other two. I think this may be holding me back a little, because I will only hold him in his cage because I’m scared he’ll escape again. I just don’t know what to do or how I can make him more comfortable with me, because right now he’ll stay in my hand for a couple of seconds then jump off and hide in fear for a few minutes. I’m just scared that he’ll hate me forever

First of all, your hamster doesn't hate.

Secondly, every hamster us different because like humans they have their own personalities.
What may have worked for your previous hamsters may not work for Bandit.

Thirdly, mistakes happen and we learn from them then make an effort not to make the same mistakes again.

You could sit in a playpen or bathtub with your hamster if he goes into a mug or something to transport him safely to let him get used to you. Keep sessions short in case he's nervous.

I've had my dwarf for a couple of weeks now and haven't even attempted bonding or taming because he's not comfortable with my hand in his cage yet.
