Smile Finnegan Sat In My Hand

I have had Finnegan, a Roborovski hamster, since March and I thought he would be a "look and don't touch" pet because the most he would do was run across my hands. However, since Friday he has been sitting in my hands for 10-15 minutes at a time. I'm eager to get a picture of him in my hands, but I do not want to startle him so I will just enjoy watching him as he sits there.

That's amazing!!

Did you put your hand in Finnegan's cage or did you take him out and then let him sit on your hand? Did he come to you?

I have a shy Robo who runs away from my hand and i don't want to scare him so have only watched and talked to him so far.

That sounds so lovely. I remember that feeling of joy when they finally trust you enough to be picked up. It's like your heart just gets filled up.

Hi Ria, Hammygal & Dalis,

Yes, your responses sum it up well: "amazing!", "good!" and "feeling of joy when they finally trust you."

Ria, in response to your questions: I put a hand in Finnegan's cage and he sat on it. I did not try to pick him up. I have been putting a hand in his cage since March-resting it on top of the substrate-and he would run back and forth over it. Now he will run to it and sit as soon as I put a hand in. I'm very surprised. He moves very fast when he decides he's had enough so I'm not going to try to pick him up or move him. I'll let it unfold on his terms. Yesterday, he was waiting when I opened the door and crawled into one of my hands before I put it on the substrate. I hope you have a similar experience with your little one sometime!
