Re: Henry and Gordon
Hi! I personally haven't had a Robo. Although I do know that they are very skittish. Hamsters in the wild are prey animals and are wary of people. Syrian hamsters, according to Wikipedia, have been domesticated since the 1700's. The Roborovski dwarf hamsters were discovered around the year 1903.
It also could depend on the personality of him.
I hope this helped.
You could also cut the toes off an old sock, then wear it around your wrist for a day or two. Then put it in his cage to be comfortable with your scent.
Have a great day

This would actually be extremely dangerous unfortunately, as cotton can and will lead to serious digestive blockages and can also wrap around toes, nails, etc and lead to toe loss or even the loss of entire limbs. This is why cotton fluff is incredibly dangerous but this safety information does apply to any fabric type item in one way or another!

Re: Henry and Gordon
I think our Syrian Henry had a delayed tantrum.
Last night i lifted the small section of his house roof to check his hoard for gone off fresh food while he was in his nest which didn't seem to bother him.
Then i cleaned his Rodipet corner toilet outside his house, washed it, replaced the sand and smelly substrate around the toilet with fresh.
Still no pink nose appeared in the doorway which was most unusual.
A bit later he walked from his house and sat in his coconut outhouse. I talked to him and he didn't turn round to show me his bum which was even more out of character. He let me stroke him so i sat by his cage scrunching my Cheerios while he was hanging out of his coconut sniffing towards me or my Cheerios so i gave him one which he ate looking ever so cute.
I went to bed wondering why Henry had suddenly turned into a tolerant and sociable hamster when i'm so used to being ignored at best.
I got up in the morning and couldn't believe my eyes.
He had chucked most of the sand out of his toilet. He had thrown the degus shelf acting as a step to his haybasket off his roof which had landed in the toilet. He had somehow managed to move his stepping stones and he had kicked substrate all over the place! Oh dear, he had thrown a temper tantrum afterall.

Re: Henry and Gordon
Yesterday morning and shortly before i had to go to work i noticed what looked like faint traces of blood on the rim of Henry's white ceramic toilet and a stone nearby.
Henry came out of his house as per usual to eat a bit of my breakfast, had a sniff around and went back to bed.
I very reluctantly went to work knowing that my OH would be in later. My OH reported back that Henry seems to be fine and busy eating a bit of grape.
I have been wondering if 18/19 months old Syrian Henry is developing kidney problems because sometimes there's a lot of strong smelling pee in his toilet and then there's smaller amounts for a few days which don't seem to smell much.
It would be very hard to tell if he's feeling unwell because Henry has never been a sociable hamster and has always prefered his own company with a great fondness of his nest.
I will phone the vet today but am a bit worried that a course of antibiotics could do more harm than good should the coloured pee be caused by food like a purple flower in a herb mix i bought recently, if that is at all possible.

Re: Henry and Gordon
I’ve never experienced any of my hams having coloured pee from eating anything, even beetroot so it is probably less likely to be that.
Older hams do often develop kidney problems (which can be helped a little by reducing protein in the diet when they’re older) but it could be a UTI, they’re quite common in hams & they are so good at. hiding the signs of being unwell it may be hard to tell without a urine test.
I’m sure the vet will be able to advice you anyway, hope it’s nothing too serious &. he’ll be ok.

Good luck at the vets. Hopefully it's nothing serious.
