Default Hamster Squeaks Randomly!!????

Hi guys, ive owned a hamster for exactly 9 days today. Dobbys a cute little syrian who i love. He was very skittish but day before there was a sudden shift and he now waits for me at the cage. And climbs my hand immediately. Im astounded and i nearly cried with happiness cz he used to hide from me before

Im only worried about one thing, whenever he sleeps or during the day. When he's in his little igloo i hear a random squeak. But he isnt in pain, he has his nesting material. He has water + food. And i read that it means a hamster is in distress! And he seems fine to me..

PLEASE HELP 😥 I dont want dobby to be in distress

By no means am I a knowledgeable about this kind of stuff, so don’t take what I say as the answer to Dobby’s squeaking.

I don’t know what the squeaks sound like, but the sound is very important. If it sounds more like a scream or hiss, this most likely means your hammy is scared or angry. It could even be because of the dreams he has. Also, hamsters have amazing smell so Dobby might smell something that you don’t.

My first hamster, although, sneezed sometimes when the bedding tickled his nose and it sounded like a little squeak. Again, this might not be the case but it is just a thought!

Hope this helped at all!

Hi! Thank you for telling me this, it doesn't sound like a hiss or scream, my mom said it could be his dreams too.
Thank you so much ♥️

It's hard to say when you can't actually hear the noise but do keep an eye on it in case it's actually a respiratory issue. Depending on what bedding you're using it could be irritating to his nose (like if it's dusty or if it's softwood shavings the phenols in the wood can irritate their lungs). What has he got in his nest?

Could very well be just little dreamy chirps but still worth making sure it's not a problem.

You say that he has a little igloo. Syrians are big hamsters and grow quickly so need a big, bottomless house to make a proper nest in. Could he be squeaking because he's annoyed? Maybe he lacks space and the igloo is made of plastic which can cause condensation? Just a thought

Theres another bigger strawberry hut type of thing that I've left in his cage which he never goes into. He's very small right now, around 29-31 days. Would u suggest buying a bigger igloo? Or maybe a light weight bottomless shelter?

I wasn't aware chipsi did aspen, I thought they were all softwood varieties. Google shows they do beech chips (also fine) but not aspen so maybe just check what you have there.

Oh ok, i will asap. The pet store i bought it from assured it me was aspen, and not pine and cedar and that it was a good and safe brand.
Another pet store i went to was giving me, fluffy bedding or some wood shavings that have like pointy wooden pieces. There was one which was no brand . It was premium wood shavings i bought that initially and there were all bugs in it. So i exchanged and went some place else where they assured me this was the best
Here's the one I have

https://in.miscota.com/small-animals...UaAq8nEALw_wcB

I live in india, so finding good quality hamster products in my state is a little difficult I've found. Thanks for telling me it isnt aspen!
and would u recommend changing the bedding, since idk what wood this is

Hamsters like a bottomless house sitting on substrate so they can make a nest, bury their hoards etc. You could use a cardboard shoe box and cut a door in it, use the lid as the roof and sit the open side on the substrate or adjust a tissue box. That way you can find out what type of house your hamsters likes. I'd leave both in the cage in case he got used to the igloo and may not move into a new house rightaway. I gave my hamster a wooden bottomless house and a plastic one with a plastic floor to choose from. He ignored the plastic one, sniffed and nibbled the wooden one then moved in.
