I am so sad for you and I know it is very hard to lose a furry friend. This must have been very traumatic and I am very sorry this had to happen. You didn’t do anything wrong and don’t blame yourself for this incident. I know it will be hard to think about getting another hammy, but I would like to give you some advice if you would like. I own two cats, one of them being a feisty hunter. I used to put my hammy in a cage with bars, but I was terrified that my cats could get a claw through the bars. Plus, the cage was too small anyway. I got a new cage that I made myself. I bought a large plastic Sterlite container and lid. I drilled holes in the lid for ventilation. Now my hammies are safe from the big cat monster. Additionally, I keep the door closed at all times in my room (where the cage is) and I only let my cat in when I can watch him.

Here is a story if you want to read it, totally cool if you want to just move on (:
One day when I got home from school, I went to my room and realized that my mom had left the door open. This was when I still had the cage with wires and it was on a low shelf. I walked in and Waffles (my old hamster, RIP) was on the floor in his cage! I was terrified and the cage was on its side. The top of the cage almost came off. Thankfully, Waffles was ok. A little traumatized, but ok. After that I kept the cage on the floor....
Sorry if that was insensitive, I know that you have gone through a lot with your loss.

RIP HAMMY! They are in a better place now!
