Default Lifespan? How old are your hammies?

So I'm new to the hamster world and so obsessed with our 2 little hammies that I'm already sick over the idea of them passing one day. Being that they're both 5ish months old, I fear my time with them will be waaaaay too short. I did a search on oldest hammies and I think the record is for 6 years and 5 mo! Unfortunately, from what I've researched, this is not the norm Tried to do a search in here for 'age' and 'old', etc. to see if there are any threads dealing with this subject from members but none came up. So wondering, in seasoned hammie circles, what your experience is as far as how long these precious little furries live?

There is a thread here stated a long time ago which may give you some idea. How long do they live?

In my experience, most live to about 2. But I have had a few go on longer. One of ours made it to around 3 but we adopted him from a friend when he was already old so I can’t be entirely sure how old he was. Another one lived to be about 2 years and 4 months give or take. My current hamster will be 2 years and 5 months in October.

Thank you, all! I read the same. Wish it was so much more than 2ish years I'll check out that link to see if any lived longer and I'll cross my fingers maybe I'll be one of the lucky ones to see my hammies reach 3+!

My oldest is 2 years old and he just sired a litter of 9 pups 10 days ago. I have had them live to 4 years old when not bred and given proper diet and care. Most of mine live beyond 2 years and 6 months old

Most of mine have lived to anything between one and tso and a half.

I have kept syrians and roborovskis mainly. Also one hybrid dwarf hamster who lived til he was two.

I just lost Pikachu, my Syrian hamster. I bought him for my grandson in April 2017. I found Pikachu dead in his little burrow on my birthday on Sept. 11, 2019. I really wasn't prepared for him to not be with me anymore. I know he was probably a couple of months old when I got him, so he was at least 2 1/2 years old. I bought another Syrian hamster a week later. His name is Twinkie. I was looking for a Winter White when I went to get another hamster and they were out of them. I did manage to buy two Winter Whites a few days ago, Sochi and Mishka, so now I have 3 hamsters. I used to have hamsters when my sons were adolescents, but I had not owned one since about 2005. There are so many things on the internet that gives us more knowledge about how to care for hamsters now. I just enjoy my sweeties. One of the new Winter Whites, Mishka, is concerning me though, as it sleeps all the time. Sochi runs around all night long and is enjoying his new home, but Mishka is never out, day or night. Of course, Twinkie is doing great, too. I am hoping that Mishka will soon get accustomed to his new surroundings and enjoy his new home, too.
