Re: Houseplant for hamster?
I would still worry about damp and mould spores with compost. They are probably best digging in substrate or sand. From what I've seen the only reason they dig is to find a burrow or try and escape!

Re: Houseplant for hamster?
youtube Erin may be a hamster authority but i've been out and checked about a dozen different composts and none of them i was happy with. Most had chemical stuff added, nothing organic available at all and one even stated to keep away from pets so i dropped that idea. Going to mix the eco-earth up now.

Re: Houseplant for hamster?
I think Rodipet make something actually. Desert bedding and peat they say is pet safe. I would still be cautious using anything intended for damp habitats though.

Re: Houseplant for hamster?
I put the Eco-earth in a tray in the play pen. It's too damp for the cage and so far he's ignored it anyway. He ate the herb leaves from the pot but didn't dig the earth. He took a shine to a new toy I got him today. Some four way seaweed tunnel thing.
