Default Small hamster?

My hamster must be around four months old now but looks small for a Syrian. How long do they grow for? I don't know his exact age because i got him from a pet shop and forgot to ask.

I'm not sure what the growth rates are in Syrians but I've found that in my Chinese it really has been an individual thing. Cora for example, was a good weight at four months old but Charlotte didn't reach her full adult weight until she was about eight months old.

There's also the fact that hamsters can have an individual build and some are just naturally larger than others. Again, I'm not too knowledgeable of Syrians but Jack, who is my largest Chinese at the moment weighs 58g which is the same weight that Matthew, who was one of my previous Chinese was. Matthew always had a chunkier build but he felt fat at that weight wheras Jack, who has a longer, leaner build seems quite healthy at that weight.

They are variable in size depending on their genetics and their rearing when young. He will continue to grow and fill out till he is about 6-7 months old. As long as he is healthy, active and feels fairly well covered when handled I wouldn't worry about his weight. A pet shop hammy we had here for taming came to us at about 4 months and he was only 83g but we did feed him some extras and he is now 101g and has gone home. I doubt he will ever be a big boy. I'd say anywhere from 100g to 200g would be fine for an adult syrian.

Maybe my hamster is younger than i thought. I have the Harry Hamster mix and a Johnson mix and give him a total of a tablespoon fresh every day but he doesn't finish it. He gets fresh veg daily and a bit of fruit now and then. Thing is that he likes non hamster food like cheese but only gets a tiny bit twice a week and cooked pasta. I hung a single wholemeal spaghetti from his cage roof today and he got out of his nest for that, hopping about on his backlegs grabbing with his paws till he managed to get every bit of spaghetti. I sprinkle that insect mix about which he eats some of. Is there anything I should feed him to fatten him up a bit?

Smile Re: Small hamster?

Just wanted to say that I'm no longer worried about my small, shy and sleepy hamster. Not after watching him build a nest at top speed after a cage clean and going by the amount of food he moved in he's not planning on going hungry. I checked him over and he doesn't feel skinny or bony and everything seems to be in the right place. He made a little grunting noise so not sure what that meant but he wasn't stressed by me giving him a health check. Thanks for all your help guys...again.
