Potty training question- do I really need a litter?
Hi all,
My hamster (Alvin), chose his corner to pee in as soon as we set up his cage. It took me a while to figure it out bc it's right under his water bottle, but I realized after a while that it was pee and not the water leaking lol. He digs the bedding out of the way and pees in the same corner every time. I just clean the area and take out the wet bedding, replace it and then spot clean the poop pellets throughout the cage daily.
I've read (here and other places) that in order to potty train, I should put the litter tray where he chooses as a pee place, often a corner of the cage, which works perfectly now bc hes chosen his spot, but I'm worried that messing with his corner and putting a litter there will mess with his peeing...I feel like he's potty trained already but just not peeing in a litter, just his corner!
What should I be doing? I don't mind cleaning out that corner and the bedding daily I guess...what's the point of having a litter? Do I really need one?
Thanks!

Personally, I wouldn’t pay the extra money for the litter. I think I may have even heard that it could be toxic? I might just add a sand bath in that spot or continue what you’re doing.
Litter is more expensive anyways just for the same purpose
