I check their hoard when I spot clean to make sure there’s not moldy or stale food but ltherwise unless you’re hamster toilets in the hoard, it will only need replacing every few weeks,

Re: Random Questions?
I'm not sure of the exact amount of extra protein you would need, I did work it out once but not sure where my figures are now!
I wouldn't worry too much, you could give a small piece of dried chicken daily & a couple of mealworms should be fine.

Re: Random Questions?
Another question, do I feed my hamster veggies and fruit with their normal food or instead. Same with little pieces of cooked chicken, is that instead of the normal mix or with it or in it???

Re: Random Questions?
This so informative. Thanks do s much! Does anyone have a particular brand of hamster treats they recommend? I also was told by one of the forum members here on the forum that Syrians aren't very keen on mealworms where dwarfs love them. After been given that advice I placed freeze dried chicken cat treats on my list to bump up the protein levels of the brand of hamster food I'm giving.

Re: Random Questions?
I'd say feed the veggies, chicken etc additionally with the hamster mix and not instead. That's what i do anyway. Hamsters are not greedy like us humans and know when to stop.
The insect mix i use is called Critter's Choice and i scatter some about for extra protein. I provide my hamster with a selection of foods and leave it to him to eat what he fancies.
