bin ideas?
hello! back in february i was gifted a tiny blueish coloured dwarf hamster! i’m not sure which exact type. since ive had her she’s been in three cages ( since i wasn’t actually aware of the gift, my boyfriend bought me a glass tank,, which was too small for my liking. ) she’s currently in a 50l bin cage which again isnt big enough, yet today i purchased an 84l bin and i’m thinking this should be her perminant home?
so what should i include? i already have hides and hanging toys etc, a litter box and i’m going to include a sand bath in there too - but is there anything else? any ideas?

Re: bin ideas?
Do you mean the 84L RUB? That volume isn’t really big enough either, the interior dimensions end up even smaller. Ideally you’re after something with over 80-100 x 50cm of floor space for a dwarf. She’s already been in quite a few cages so you really won’t want to be doing many more changes at all. For enrichment cork tunnels are great, grapevines too they all provide interesting textures. Can’t go wrong with bendy bridges or toilet paper tubes either. Try and stick to chewable items so not plastic. Plenty of bedding (over 6 inches deep) and a big sand bath.

Re: bin ideas?
yeah, this one :// well crap, would you suggest cutting perhaps a hole in her old bin and using a tube to attatch them, or would that not be helpful at all? i really just want to give her the best, but like you said - i don’t want to change her main bin again. i give her about 8 inches of aspen shavings and carefresh, plus she does have a corner filled with sand and this dried hay substrate that i found at my local pet shop. she also has a ton of wooden chews and ive used toilet tubes buried beneath a mound of carefresh to give her a headstart on burrowing. she’s huge digger https://www.buy-stationery.co.uk/rea...SABEgLtqPD_BwE

Re: bin ideas?
No connecting bins doesn’t really increase the floor area, it isn’t the same as one large space. I would get an entire new cage. Another change will be stressful but it’s better for her long term. You’ll want something at least the size of the 145L really useful box which might be expensive so maybe look into alternatives. The amount of bedding you have is good, if you want to keep providing 8 inches you’ll have to stick to bins or a tank really.

Re: bin ideas?
No problem, yes that one is one of the biggest bins you can probably find and should be ok size wise.
