Default Large Living World Eco Green Habitat - First Impressions

I recently received the large living world eco green habitat (LWEGH) from Zooplus, it came back in stock recently and now has quickly become sold out again and they say will come back around the 27th. This is approximate as last time they said back in stock for the 13th but came back on the 12th.

The box was very heavy and I had to take things upstairs in pieces rather than the whole box. The dimensions are a little larger than specified on Zooplus so take that in mind for where you're going to put this enclosure.

Assembly:

It was fairly easy to put together, with a few bumps along the way. The wheels have to be attached by using a Hex key to screw them in with screws. I find this step fairly easy but I couldn't turn the Hex key all the way around because it kept on bumping into the wheel and so you have to partially screw it in and then go back and repeat until the screw is tight.

This is probably a problem with the delivery but one of the perspex walls had a corner chipped off it. This is with extensive packaging of bubble wrap and pieces of cardboard. And I'm sure as many of you know, Zooplus is usually very good with delivery so keep in mind that the cage is fragile and I luckily got away with a small broken corner that has no effect but could've been a whole crack.

The wooden corner edges screwed in well but were still wobbly after turning the hex key over and over. I had to hold the perspex walls in place so I could get the top wooden pieces on.

The two wooden circular locks were easy to screw in but I find quite stiff when I turn to lock/unlock the cage. The lid is huge and quite heavy to keep taking on and off again.

After I finished the assembly the cage was easy to move about and the front wheels lock nicely in place, but I have to say the cage is NOT silent. It makes a loud noise, especially the perspex when moved about. I plastikoted the floor and was easy not to get any on the walls because of the sharp edges located along the floor. I also protected the corner columns with varnish which was a little harder not to spoil the perspex. I recommend using masking tape on the perspex next to where you're applying the varnish so the perspex is protected from being ruined. I'm not putting any other protection down currently but will be if the hamster chews at the floor.

Pros:
-clear walls so easy to see pet
-fairly easy to assemble
-little DIY modifications needed
-fast delivery if you're ordering from Zooplus
-easy to transport with wheels
-gives a good natural look

Cons:
-very expensive
-can look bulky in the household
-box it comes in is very heavy
-is fragile and perspex can be easily damaged
-hamster can chew on the wood or urinate on it so the wood needs protecting safely
-the lid needs to be meshed if you're adding enough substrate and a 12" wheel and or tall toys

Please reply you think there's any other details, pros or cons that I may have missed. Overall I think this is a great cage but like every other has its pros and cons. I will come back after a few months with a reply after some usage with a hammy in it.

I also apologise if any of this seemed confusing, it's easier to understand with a visual.

Bye!

Exciting! You've been busy Looking forward to seeing it. Such a shame a corner got chipped off. Could you take a photo of it and email it to Zooplus - they might send you a replacement panel if you tell them.

Hi,

Just a quick question. How do I attach photos to a reply without it automatically turning into a link?

I am not sure what you mean. You can attach photos to a forum post by clicking on "Go Advanced" at the bottom of the message box you're typing in. Then scroll down to "Manage attachments" and click on that. Another smaller window opens and select "browse". Select your photo and then click on "upload photo" and wait for it to upload. Repeat for further photos - maximum of 5. When you've finished, click close window. Then go back to the message box and click on the paper clip at the top and "insert all" and links to the photos will appear in the message (make sure the cursor is where you want the photos to appear). When you then click "submit" the photos will appear in the post.

But - before doing that you need to check the size of the photos as they usually need resizing. About 600 to 700 pixels wide is the right size. It;s easy to do that on a PC as you open the photo in Paint, click on "resize" and select pixels rather than percentage and change the top number to say, 650. Then do "save as" to keep the original and save the resized one separately.

Can’t wait to see ypur fonished setup! Shame about the damage though.

Would you able to give a rough estimate of how many millimetres thick the perspex is?

This is a rough estimate as I used the broken chip to measure the thickness but I got 3-4mm.
