Default Flipping Hamsters onto their Backs for Instagram Likes

I've noticed on Instagram that people are laying their hamsters on their backs because they think it's cute, but the hamsters look so uncomfortable. I also read that a hamster laying limp on its back is playing dead as a defense mechanism, so these "relaxed" hamsters are most likely just really terrified. But people argue that they actually like this and are super tame and comfortable. So, what's the real answer? Is it ok to flip your hamster over onto its back for no reason? (I do understand that you might have to scruff them and flip them over for medical reasons). I personally don't think this trend is ok.

My hamster hates it! Not sure why it’s a trend - maybe try and start a new trend - Hamster butts I guess if it’s a one-off for a few seconds for a photo it’s not so bad but if done regularly then no not good.

My hamsters hate being on their backs, I only ‘flip’ them when I’m doing health checks and they barely stay still long enough for that.

I know some hamster’s don’t mind it so much, especially breeder hammies that have had a lot of human contact since they were pups but I know what hamster instagram is like unfortunately

A hamster is very vulnerable in that position so most do hate it, it's ok to do briefly during a health check but other than that there is no reason to do it, a cute photo is a pretty poor reason.

Yeah most don't like it but some are actually fine with it. Not any of my lot though!

Hate to say it but it's probably one of the 'better' things people can end up doing to hamsters on instagram for a cute pic unfortunately.

Sadly that's very true.
