Default My new hamster Frankie

Hi guys, we're new here and new to the Hamster world although we did a lot of research before purchasing him.

We picked our new Syrian hammy up a couple of days ago (12/01/2019) and named him Frankie, cute little fellow he is. At first we was a little worried as he kept sleeping and hiding in his litter toilet. It's under a shelf in his cage which i presume is why he kept going in their as he wasn't used to us. Anyway we had a banana shaped wooden thing that had cotton wool bedding inside, which at first he wasn't using so we read to rip up toilet paper and put it in his cage as they love this for bedding. We put it up our sleeves for 20 mins so he could get used to our scent then put it in his cage. He finally started using his house and this morning we woke up to see he has dragged the toilet paper and some of the cotton wool into his house. Is this ok? I don't want hi suffocating in their as it's not the biggest house, it just come with the cage. Also we've hardly seen him as i know their more active at night but eventually we want to play with him and spend time with him, so should we feed him at a certain time every evening, say 7pm? First night he came out at 7pm and seemed to love his tube that goes around his cage and he was exploring, but last night we went to bed at 9pm but didn't see him at all so we want to get him into a routine. What's the best way for this? Sorry about the long post.
