I keep thinking about that poor hamster
A couple months ago (when my hamster food got infested) I went to Pets at Home to pick up more food.
Obviously I couldn't go in without saying hi to all the animals. There was one black Syrian sat down in a corner and a brown one was on top/next to them. They didn't look happy. When the brown one turned round I saw that it looked like it had blood by his eye. It also had a hole in the middle of it's ear (the hole didn't look fresh? There was no blood). I told the worker about it as I paid and she said she'd have a look but I can't stop thinking about that poor hamster.
I would have taken it home if I could, just to guarantee it didn't have to stay another night with the others (it was a friday so would probably get sold the next day anyways). Also it was pretty and cute!
I find myself just hoping the little one found a good home, lived to find a forever home. And also that it wasn't too hurt and recovered well.

Re: I keep thinking about that poor hamster
These things do get to you and if it was me I'd be wanting to go back to see either they had sorted it out or the hamster had been sold. Very upsetting for you.

Re: I keep thinking about that poor hamster
This is heartbreaking, we should create more awareness that not every hamster should be in the same cage. Let more people know that some of the hamsters are solitary animal.

Re: I keep thinking about that poor hamster
I hate reading things like this, I would've said something and gone back to check on the Ham. What really annoys me is this will have been hard to miss by the staff, I know if I worked there, I would've acted right away, majority of these stores have a vet practice on site.

Re: I keep thinking about that poor hamster
I definitely regret not going back the next day to check but I think I did what I could, which was just telling the employee, who sounded concerned and it looked like she was going to go over to the hamsters as I left.
I'm not sure the shop did anything really wrong in this case except not keep a close enough eye on animals that grow up to become very territorial and solitary. (In all fairness this might be hard to achieve some days as the animals are on the one half/corner of the store and usually when I go in they have about 2-3 employees on the floor with one having to stay at the till all the time. But they should still try to keep a close eye on the animals).
On a more uplifting note: I went to the same pets at home today and adored over the animals. There was a group of 4 young roborovskis in a pile sleeping together! They looked like they each were about 3cm big (they did look old enough to be sold though). One woke up and gave a massive yawn and then drifted back off, curled next to it's sibling I wanted to cry they were so cute!

Re: I keep thinking about that poor hamster
That's lovely It sounds like the hamster you saw before has a new home now too. Syrians should not be in a cage together - unless they are siblings under a certain age.
