Christmas gifts?
Okay this may sound stupid but I was wondering could I wrap a treat for my hamster for christmas and let her try to open it or is that dangerous?

Re: Christmas gifts?
Its a great idea. I know cardboard is safe for them to chew and plain paper should be fine.
Have fun!

Aww! That is a cute idea! You can use plain paper and decorate it. Or, you can find safe (soy based) wrapping paper. Have fun with this and show us when you are done!

Re: Christmas gifts?
You can make a Christmas cracker put the treats in a toilet roll, wrap nice paper round the the toilet roll, extending over the ends, then twist the ends (holds it all together without using sellotape or string). Your hammy will love trying to get inside. I doubt they would eat the wrapping paper - never had any problems with that - and if they did take some for nesting it wouldn't do any harm really - but they tend to be more focused on getting at the treats!

Re: Christmas gifts?
I wrap my hammies gifts in tissue! Its easy for them to unwrap and they can use the tissue in their nests.

Re: Christmas gifts?
Recently I was going through photo albums of when me and my sister were little and I found a gem. It was a christmas day photo featuring our hamster Boris (I was around 3 I think) and my mum had wrapped up his food for that day. She didnt let him open it but she thought he deserved a christmas present too apparently.
So definitely give her a present!

Re: Christmas gifts?
Tissue paper is a great idea! Our hammies have always had a Christmas stocking - which is a sock with treats etc in. More for our/my benefit having it hanging on the cage - usually justtaken the things out of the sock ourselves because they don't always smell strongly enough for the hammy to investigate when in their plastic wrappers etc.
