Default Water bottle or water bowl?

I’ve been considering getting a water bowl for a long time but I’m not sure, what size would it need to be?

As an owner who uses both I can say that both have their pros and cons!

Some tips FOR getting a water bowl are;

1. Get something heavy - Such as a ceramic bowl, this will prevent your hamster from knocking it over!
2. Get something shorter than your hamster but not too shallow. A shallow bow may encourage a hamster to sit in it and your bowl needs to be small enough for your hamster to actually drink out of.
3. Clean it..A LOT - Be prepared to rinse the water bowl out several times a day to clear it of dust, bedding and anything else nasty that might get in it!

All my hamsters seem to prefer to use bowls rather than bottles, I give them both when I first get them but they soon ignore the bottle in favour of the bowls, I use this one which is a really good design, it doesn't tip or spill, perfect size too.
You do need to take a bit of care with where you put it so it won't get knocked over or get lots of substrate in it, I put mine on a shelf & don't have any problems with stuff getting in.

I think that's too big tbh. The one I use is about 5cm

It does depend upon each individual hamster which they prefer. My past hamster Pumpkin preferred using a bowl but other Syrians I had that I tried a bowl with they much rather drink from a bottle instead. When introducing a bowl keep a bottle available too.
That bowl is fine to use a water bowl if you have a Syrian - that’s the size I use. I found if I used a shallower bowl Syrians will often step into the water. Although I only filled the bowl up halfway.

How much do you recommend filling it?

Bowls are a pain as the hams keep getting bedding in it
