Welcome, Melkor and Bean
I have purchased yet two more hamsters! Two male Russian Dwarf Hamsters, who may I add, are much more lively than Vin and Nugget (my female Russians) when it comes to toys. I woke up last night to Melkor literally hanging from a carrot toy I had hung on the roof of the cage, Bean attached to the other side. Even in my few days of having them, they have proven to be quite the curious little critters. Melkor, though, is a bit bolder than Bean, he has come over and sniffed my hand, and is accepting Treats, while Bean will gladly ignore me in favor of his toys.
In other news, Nugget has become comfortable with being held! Given I have food for her... The same goes for Vin, her nibbling has almost stopped fully, too (though I am sure it is because she associates me with food, ahem, I should wash my hands after feeding!).
Peewee (my Syrian) is still as shy as ever, though he has taken to pressing his face against the side of the cage whenever I come near, in hopes of a treat. Or even better, a carrot. I recently found that he is a sucker for them. I have still not tamed him, he is just too shy, but I am still making progress, it will just take a bit longer. He will be worth the wait, I am sure.
And finally, Pippin. This little soul has a knack for cheering people up, he sits on his back paws when my sister is crying, or upset. It is very sweet, even if he is just wondering what the noise is.
I will post again about the hammies in the future, when anything new pops up!

Ah your new little guys sound so sweet! It could be because they're young and that they're exploring more for why they're more playful with their toys - as I've always found my females have been more energetic - but you could have also just came across an enthusiastic pair!

Re: Welcome, Melkor and Bean
They are both so gorgeous. Though, I have noticed that when I turn the lights out, they will sometimes squeak. As soon as the lights are back on, they are perfectly content. Not sure what this sort of behaviour means, but I've taken to leaving a lamp on for them. They seem perfectly content to run around and play when it's on? I mean, they do the same in the dark, but they squeak. And don't worry, they aren't fighting, they do sometimes play, but there's no blood or wounds. And at the end of the day, they are snuggled up together, and it melts my heart.
