I finally finished my hamsters house
I finished the construction of my hamster house. I've been looking all over town for a short haired Syrian male. I found a lot of black ones, but I had my heart set on one like the little fella in the picture in the header of this website. (the one on the right)
I finally found one similar to the one in the picture. I had to drive to the next county to get him. He's being a little shy right now. I will take a picture of him and post it soon.

Re: I finally finished my hamsters house
Congratulations on your new ham! I’m really looking forward to seeing him!
I love your cage too! How many square inches is it? The setup looks good too. You may want more substrate in your cage especially since you have a platform. If he falls you want something soft he can land on. Ideally, you should have 5-7 in. of substrate in your cage. You can also add plain, unscented tissue to your cage. Rub your hands all over the tissue or stick it up your sleeve for a few hours so your scent gets on it. Then put it in the cage. This is a great soft bedding material and with your scent on it, your ham will get used to your scent. This will help when taming comes along. Hope this helps!

Re: I finally finished my hamsters house
Congrats on your new ham, look forward to meeting him when he's settled.
Your cage does look nice, I agree about the substrate, if you could make a small platform to stand the wheel on to keep it steady & above the substrate you could put a really nice deep layer in there.

Re: I finally finished my hamsters house
Hey guys, thanks for the substrate information. I will build a small platform and use velcro to steady the stand.
The bottom floor is 877 square inches.

That's a lovely cage. How's your hammy liking it?

That looks so adorable, I love the little details, especially the fencing and the palm trees.
