Default Taming going slow?

I have had my hamster since August 23rd and started taming her since August 30th. I just started on Monday to put her in the bath to be tamed which was good because everytime she went in the tube, I lifted her up and put her on me to walk out onto my hand. After around 10mins I got her out and put her back. (This was around 9:30pm) Tuesday when she came out at 8:30 she went in her sand bath but went behind her wheel and didnt go in her tunnel at all, this happens quite frequently but usually she will come out for food then go back. Yesterday she did the same but I wanted her to go in the bath so I waited until 10:30 for her to go in her tube which she eventually did when I moved the wheel. However in the bath she just seemed quite nervous and pacing but she came on my hands a few times which was good but now she just seems a little more scared of me, she wont bother to come out for food unless its close to her. (This was kind of happening before I put her in the bath too) People say that putting them in the bath helps but it seems to do the opposite for me which is annoying as I stay up 8:30 - 10:30 every night for her. Is there anything I can do to be better?

Baths can work sometimes but often I’ve found it’s been too large for taming. Are you sitting in the bath with her? If so it sounds like it’s too soon for that. If you’re not, baths really aren’t the best for taming as the sides are so tall that you’re almost directly above them, which doesn’t help. Maybe get a taming bin or some kind of smaller enclosure and see how that works.

I’d also limit taming sessions to a short amount of time - even as short as 5-10 minutes a time - and slowly increase it as she gets more confident. Otherwise they will just become increasingly nervous about each session. You can even try two shorter sessions instead of one. Have you tried putting tissue up your wrist or something then placing it in the cage? Sometimes it helps with getting more familiar with you.

Yes I am in the bath with her and I can sort of do a 10min taming session but that would just involve me having my hand in her cage for the entire 10min while she does whatever else she wants to and ignores my hand so it wouldn't really work.

Best keep taming outside the cage so don’t put your hand in there, get a box smaller than her cage and just put a few of her favourite items in there. Put your hand in with her favourite treats on there until she takes them. Stop the session if you see her start to get nervous, you can try again later that evening or the next day. You may well have several sessions where she doesn’t go near your hand and that’s perfectly okay too. It’s important to go at their pace and with each session their confidence will increase as will their trust in you. My own hamster has taken months on end to get relatively tame so it’s important to keep at it even if you’re not seeing any immediate results.

All hamsters are different when it comes to taming, some can take ages, I always find it's best to go at their pace. Whenever I've done taming, I've blocked off a space in my hall, start small then gradually increase the size.
