New and Bie reunited!
Hi, I am Jessica from Medan, Indonesia.
I just want to share my experience since I adopted my first Hamster.
I adopted 1 couple of Syrian Hamster 2 weeks ago from acquaintance, they are 3 weeks when I first adopted them. They are sibling, but they fight from time to time.
So I made another cage to separate them, I won't take the risk they kill each other and I lost one of them.. :'(. So I purchased another cage, but New ( female ) escaped those new cage twice! whole family looking for her two days in a row and I am scolded by my parents )))
First escaped is she going to bathroom!! We realized she's in there when someone peeing and flush the floor and she screams!
We try to grab her by using hand, but its hard, as she also fight back. Then my mom use noodle tongs to pinch her by her neck and she is wetttt... really wett.... Me and my sister believe she cant deal with those. And i am getting my heart ready if she died when i back from office. Luckily she is not dead, vice versa she is healthy and grow well until now.
Second escape ( the next day ) is not difficult as the first, because she's back to her own cage herself.
Next, i made for them big cage and I separated them by a partition.
yesterday, when i am back from office, i cant find my Bie, male one. Panicked, i look beside, where New at. making sure she is not dissapeared too...
And I shocked, in that side, there are 2 hamster. New & Bie. Bie climb over and reunited with his sibling, New.
Now they live happily forever.

Re: New and Bie reunited!
You should NEVER keep Syrians together!! They will not live “happily forever” together. Even though they’re siblings and still babies themselves, get ready for A LOT of baby nd soon also a lot of fighting! You meed to seperate them ASAP.
They might not be fighting properly yet but they will soon and that could easily end in one of them killing the other so please seperate them immediately and hope that you dont have a pregnant hamster.
Also you need seperate large cages for them both, partitioning one cage wont give each enough space and is very dangerous if they get past the partition!!
Please NEVER use noodle tongs to pick up a hamster!! If they escape but cant be picked up because they aren’t tame yet, just try to guide them into a bucket or their cage using food.

Agree with alpacassei - you need to separate them immediately. Stick one in a storage box or anything you have for now while you get a new cage sorted. It needs doing now.
You’ll need two escape proof cages, you cannot just add the partition back. Not sure how they’ve escaped in the past but make sure the cages are very secure with a lid on at all times.

Re: New and Bie reunited!
What a relief that you got her back ... twice!
It would be best to keep them separate from now on as hamsters are territorial animals and will fightnto the death. One minute they are getting on fine, the next blood and wounds and even death.
Brothers and sisters mating will produce unhealthy babies. Another good reason to separate them.
Hope you manage to find one of them a nice new cage asap. Look forward to hearing more about them. Hopefully no more escapes!!

Oh Oh... I think now that one of them cross over the partition, it should be okay, and whenever i observe them, they are all well..
I am at office now i will go back soon to separate them. its a relief that i still got one fine cage.
About the pregnant's, at first i think its possible because they are just 1 month old. But this morning which is just 30minutes ago, i found out syrian can start reproducing/mating when they dont depend on their's mother milk anymore.
Hope all is well.
Thanks for the good information

Re: New and Bie reunited!
I’m glad they’re separated now! Hopefully she isn’t pregnant but she most likely is... But there is some good information in the ‘Breeding Hamsters’ topic!
