Default Wooden Trixie Wheel & taming questions

Just arrived today and I span it with my hand to test it, does it normally make a noise like a train on tracks when span? (chuga-chuga noise) Haven't waterproofed it yet so can't test it with my hamster.

I got my hamster last Monday and have been starting to tame her since Saturday by giving her food out my hand. She only takes it when you grasp it between two fingers and put it near her, if I lay it on my palm she will either just spin on her wheel on not be interested or come over and nip the edge of my palm thinking its food, when she has done this I have flinched a tiny bit so she runs back onto her wheel. Is this normal or is there something I can do better?

Never heard of train noises on the trixie wheel, mine was silent so not sure what’s happened there. If you think it’s faulty best to return it instead of Plastikoting and testing.
It just sounds as though she’s nervous of hands to be honest, plucking a treat out of fingers is a lot easier than having to venture onto a hand for it. Hamsters also spin on their wheel when they’re anxious or nervous so that’s probably why she does that during treat time. Try taming outside the cage instead, it’s a lot less invasive and you’ll probably see quicker results. Just keep at it, it’s only been a few days.

I've found that wheel to be really quiet, hardly any sound at all so I wouldn't say the noise you describe is normal tbh.

I think you just need to persevere withe hand feeding from your palm, it's still very early days & it takes time & patience, if you just keep doing it with your hand still she'll soon realise it's nothing to be afraid of.

Thanks for the advice, I will probably ring the zooplus support and ask for a replacement. Slightly annoying as that's 2 wheels know that aren't silent :I

my hamsters trashed the Trixie wheel a bit by ripping out the cork. Daft creatures. it must have been more comfy running on cork than the under lying wood. and their feet made a cute pattering sound on it.
