I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
They all have bin cages (I have 6) and they jump along the walls every single night. they are in my room and can't be moved to another. If they aren't jumping up and down and making the horribly annoying thumping noise then they are running on their noisy wheels and i can't afford 6 new wheels when i have 6 perfectly usable wheels now! I feel guilty and horrible that i feel this way but the annoyance of the sounds and knowing they never stop when i'm trying to sleep! I have a hard time getting to sleep but once i do i am fine. GAHHH they're doing it right now HELP ME!

Re: I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
Hams can be quite noisy at night as that's when they're most active & I can imagine it might well be hard to sleep with 6 of them in your room!
Cheaper wheels can be a bit of a problem although some are better than others, are the wheels squeaking or rattling around in the cage or banging against the walls of the bins? Sometimes oiling the wheels with veg oil can help, also make sure the wheels are really stable so they don't move around, I make little shelves for mine & put some toilet tissue under the wheel which I find keeps them in place & stops any noise from them moving around.
What are your bin set ups like, are the bins big enough for them to run around & do hamstery things?
Plenty of deep substrate & lots of things to explore in the cage like toilet roll tube toys & things to chew like hazel or apple sticks & whimzee dog chews can help.
Jumping or running around on the substrate shouldn't make any noise really if it's deep enough & keeping most of the things they use a little away from the walls of the bins should minimise noise too.
If you have any photos of your bin set ups we might be able to suggest things that could help.

6 hamsters in your room is going to be noisy. Is there another room you can keep them in? Photos of your bins would help us see how you can help your hamsters.

Re: I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
Hamsters are noisy critters. I have so many rodents that a quiet night is something I could only ever dream of having
How long have you had your hamsters? With time (took me a few months) you can get used to the noise from your hamsters.
Surely you knew hamsters were noisy when you had just one, no? Or did you start out with 6? I must say, 6 hamsters is an awful lot for someone who cannot tolerate the noise of them! The more hamsters you have, the louder things are going to get. The best option for you would be to remove them from the room. That will allow you to get some rest, as sleep is very important! Best wishes

Re: I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
I have 4 Campbell boys, who are quite active. As they become very possessive of "their" wheel, I have 4. They are the standard Rotastak and I oil the spindles with a bit of veg ol whenever I clean. The only noise I could hear from them wheel ws when they towed a nut into the wheel and it make a clicking noise as the wheel span around. Solution: shredded nuts..

Re: I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
Ours are in a room on the same level as our bedrooms. We find that putting kitchen roll under the wheel helps with noise and we keep wheels well lubricated. Certain wheels can have the spindle wrapped with plumbers tape which really dampens noise. If we have someone having a noisy night we just move the cage downstairs overnight.
Could you maybe move yours into another room overnight? This wouldn't be advised if you had cats or dogs around though.
Also wearing soft foam earplugs really helps quite a lot

I was just going to say earplugs too! Cheaper than new wheels.

Re: I hate my hamsters because they're so noisy!
I have had multiple hamsters in my bedroom and found it very relaxing!!!
They had wooden wheels from zooplus or silent runners, the latter being quite pricey but absolutely brilliant.
Hope you find a way to cooe with the noise. I am sure you still love the hamsters but just hate the noise, hope thats the case anyway!
