How to make a wheel stop rattling/squeaking???

Hi Y'all!

I have a 12 inch comfort wheel for my Syrian and he loves it! But all it does is rattle and squeak! It's very very loud. In fact as I'm writing this he's running on his wheel right now and it's rattling and squeaking. It's actually starting to sound like a cat yowling and my parents have come up to check.

His cage is in my bedroom and I'm a VERY deep sleeper, so it's not a problem for me. But my dogs sleep in my room with me and they will stare up at the hamster cage because they know something's in the cage. Which is exactly what I'm trying to avoid. Also my parents bedroom is directly beneath mine and my mom says the wheel will keep her up art night, it's so loud!

I'm looking for solutions so please don't just say buy a silent spinner there the best! Because I payed 17 dollars for that wheel. And don't want to spend 17 more dollars to get a silent spinner. Usually I'd just spray WD40 on there but the fumes are strong and licking it is probably dangerous for the hamster. Please any ideas to stop this?

There has been a few questions/topics on this forum about this and from what I have read, you can use a small amount of vegetable or Olive oil if you can slide the wheel off from the stand. I did that with mine and it's worked no problem.

I slid the wheel off then got a little vegetable oil between my thumb and forefinger and gently rubbed some on the part where you slide on the wheel. Try to avoid other parts if you can. I don't think a tiny bit of vegetable oil would hurt them if they were to eat it.

the comfort wheel is notoriously loud. you can try some tape or vegetable oil, but honestly, i gave up and bought a silent spinner. especially with bigger hamster, the comfort is pretty hopeless.
