Re: A new hamster?
I would recommend a bin cage, u can even connect two or three large bin cages together for optimal space. But if u really want a glass tank, the 40 gallon breeder or 75 gallon is recommended. U can also look into buying a detolf cage. Just a side note that these cages (bins, tanks and detolf need meshed lids made)

Re: A new hamster?
Thank you for all of your help.
I’ve been away but now I’m back I’m looking into getting another hammy as soon as possible now. I’ve been looking at all of the suggestions that people have said.
Has anyone got any experoence of this one or do you think it looks okay?

I still do really like the skyline Marrakesh though but it’s pretty pricey.

Re: A new hamster?
Haven't seen that one before but it's a bit on the narrow side, you would have to take the shelf out to fit a wheel in too I think, it doesn't really look all that practical tbh.

Re: A new hamster?
Not had that exact one but had the smaller one before. It was alright, hamster loved it (very shy chinese ham) but cleaning with those levels in isnt the best experience. Also since it has the levels and is on the narrow side, fitting a syrian wheel in would be a bit of a squeeze I’d imagine unless it’s an 8 inch one. Other than that, I ageee it’s a very nice tank just a couple things to think about!

Re: A new hamster?
Good advice again, thank you. I already have a 12” wheel so it’d definitely mean taking the shelf out. I will continue to look around.
Very appreciative of the advice though. X

Re: A new hamster?
I went to have a look at some hams this afternoon, at a local pet shop that has them from a local breeder. There were 4 Syrians available. They were all adorable, but the main think I wasn’t sure about was the size of them!
The owner said they were 14 weeks, and all from the same litter. They were in separate cages and all seemed content, but they all looked really big! Do you think this means they’re older than she said? When I had Ricky at 10 weeks he seemed really small in comparison.
I’m going to get the tank sorted first anyway but just thought I’d check as I know that most of you are really experienced owners on here.
Thank you in advance! Sorry for all the questions. I don’t know what I’d do without this site!

Re: A new hamster?
If you do decide on the marrakesh I’d order off zooplus.de where it’s cheaper than amazon (£111 inc delivery)- some people have done this with cages on there.
As for the hamsters I’m not sure, 14 weeks isn’t really a baby hamster anymore and they do grow a lot in that time. You probably won’t find out the exact age but I doubt it’ll be far off! Syrians can vary quite a lot in size I wouldn’t worry about it.
eta re the marrakesh I don’t know what wheel you have but 12” is on the larger side and you’d be cutting it very close height wise so do check that!

Re: A new hamster?
Thank you - that’s really helpful.
I can only see the Marrakesh on Zooplus for this price:

It’s cheaper on amazon with free delivery. Or am I looking in the wrong place?

The German version - delivery is more expensive of course but still works out cheaper! Always worth checking with cages you can save a lot.
