Default Lost Hamster

Hello!

I am babysitting a hamster for a coworker. I made an account just because I feel like I don't know what else to do! The hamster managed to get out of the cage last night. I don't see how he could have gotten outside, but I've looked everywhere. At night, I put precounted treats around the apartment and also flour on the floor to see if I could find him. But none of the treats were eaten and the flour wasn't moved. He's gotten out before, but I've always found him. I'm really worried about him. Has anyone else ever gone through something similar? Is there any chance he's okay?

Hi,

Have you found the hamster yet?
There is a good chance that he is okay but that depends on wherever he is though.

Hi and welcome to HC. I am so sorry that I have not posted here sooner, somehow I just noticed your thread. I am terribly sorry that your coworker's ham escaped while you were ham-sitting him. I hope that you managed to get him back safe and sound into his cage and all turned out alright in the end. It is very common for hammies to try and escape their cage if given the chance. If you haven't found him yet, How to Capture an Escaped Hamster in the Wiki section of HC is a wonderful guide that you may find very helpful. He certainly has a good possibility of still being fine so long as he has access to food and water and depending on where he is now and what he has been up to since his escape. Once you are able to safely place him in his cage, I would give the cage a very thorough examination to be sure that there are no tiny cracks, holes, or places that he is escaping from. It would also be a great idea to check that the cage opening or screen lid is absolutely secure, too. You and your coworker wouldn't want him to do any more repeat escape attempts since he has apparently done them numerous times before. I will be wishing you the very, VERY best in catching him and hope that he is doing well. Best of luck and please keep us updated if you have a chance to do so.
