Post 31 days of July 2018

Hi everyone! I've always enjoyed other member's monthly threads and have always wanted to do my own.

I figured i'd start with a little bit about me - I'm just about to finish my last year of college and i love animals especially small mammals and geckos (although i don't own any). i enjoy art - especially scrap booking and art journalling.

With my introduction done id like to start this month looking back on some of the hamsters I've owned from the year 2013 up to the hamsters i own now. Today i'll be sharing with you all my past Syrians.

The first ever hamster i got was this adorable black and white banded syrian who i named Patch, i knew nothing about hamsters apart from the very basic knowledge so he ended up living in a rotastack cage for 3 months before i educated myself and started making bin cages. He was my absolute heart ham and the tamest little boy, he lived to 2 years and 2 months despite having some health problems!

The second Syrian to enter my life was this crazy golden banded who was appropriately named Hurricane because thats what she was, a disastrous, messy lil girl who always wanted attention. i came to have hurricane after a family friends daughter didn't give her any attention and i never knew her exact age but i had her for a year and 2 months.

The third Syrian was a black and white dominant spot male who i fell in love with when i saw him in pets@home. He was called Midnight and I tried my hardest to tame him but he just always hated hands and would jump if you did pick him up. He'd take treats from me and that was enough. He sadly passed away far too young but i enjoyed the time i had with him.

That's it for today, tomorrow i'll go through some of my past dwarf hams with everyone however i really liked Drago's QOTD idea from last month so would like to continue that

Today's question is: what got you into hamsters as pets?
for me i had a friend in high school who had a Syrian and she let me hold/stroke her and i fell in love and knew i wanted my own.

Great start to the month, really lovely to see Patch, Hurricane & Midnight, I think I remember them but it's great to see your photos & read about their characters, all very special little friends.

What got me into hamsters as pets, I just unexpectedly came across some Russian hybrids when someone took me into P@H, I knew nothing about hams before then but it was love at first sight & the rest, as they say, is history!

A wonderful start to the month - so lovely to meet your past hamsters Patch, Hurricane and Midnight. They were all so adorable.

What got me into owning hamsters - I had always wanted a hamster from a very young age as I thought they were really cute but wasn't allowed one. Instead my parents bought me and my brothers guinea-pigs but then in 2007 my parents final agreed to allow me to get my very first hamsters. Now it coming up to almost 11 years of owning hamsters and I still love them as much as I initially did and cant imagine not having one in my life.

I’m looking forward to seeing more of this amazing thread! This is a great start to the month. I loved seeing all your past Syrians! Midnight was so beautiful! Patch and Hurricane look so sweet! Can’t wait to see all your past dwarfs

What got me into owning hamsters as a pet- I originally got some birthday money and decided I wanted a hamster (of course I didn’t know anything about them though ). I started looking at pictures of beautiful little dwarfs and Syrian and just loved everything about them, their patterns and colors, their tiny little paws, their tiny pink ears, and their sweet noses. So, we set out to our local petstore and to take one of these loving critters home, I just fell in love with this one pearl WW that was just the friendliest little thing ever! I ended up taking him home and I enjoyed all of his little quirks and personality! It was just love at first sight with these little critters!

What a lovely start to your monthly thread, all of your hams were very cute and I imagine very special.
I got into hamsters after my parents got me one for Christmas in 2013. I had been begging for a guinea pig for a couple of years but my parents always refused. Whilst brushing my teeth with my mum on Christmas eve i remember saying "if i get a guinea pig tomorrow, i will call it cookie". The next day i woke up to find a little ham under the christmas tree. My parents said guinea pigs were too high maintenance and that they thought a hamster would suit my lifestyle a bit more. I was so happy to have this completely grey little fluff ball in my life. I knew i was not going to get a guinea pig and i thought the little hamster suited the name "cookie" well and so that it what i called her. She had to be put down after she got very sick on October 27th 2015. To this day i still cry about her death and miss her very much.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments i'm glad you're all enjoying the thread and i enjoyed reading how you all got into keeping hamsters as pets

Today's post is kinda late as it's been a bit hectic in college today but the remaining posts should be up fairly early from now on.

So today's post is gonna be part one of two as i've owned quite a few dwarf hams and putting them all in one post would make it really long so i'm going to break it up into two.

The first dwarf i got was this little grey hybrid who i named Pyro. He started in a small cage, got upgraded and although i tried and tried he was never tame, he'd bite and latch on and made me bleed on multiple occasions and thus he was nicknamed 'my little biter' and i loved him

The day after i got Pyro i went and got this little female from the same person i got Pyro from. She was called Cobra and she was my first tame dwarf hamster, she loved attention and being out and i enjoyed her company.

A while after i adopted this old man who i named Jinx and he was a bit older than my other adoptees being a year or so old. He was a gentle little man who ended up with teeth problems and had to be fed babyfood and mushed hamster pellets.

Tomorrow i'll share my other two dwarf hams with you all,
Today's QOTD (the questions wont always be hamster related but for today): do you have a hamster species you haven't owned that you'd like to one day?
For me i really want a Chinese and a Robo hamster

I’m really enjoying reading all about your past dwarf hammies and can’t wait for tommarow to learn about your other two! Pyro looks to cute to even think of bitting! But, I guess he looks a little mischievous in one of those pictures. Cobra looks so sweet and gentle! Jinx looks adorable eating his food and crawling through the tunnel! What cuties!

Do you have a hamster species you haven’t owned that you’d like to one day?: So far, I’ve only owned a WW hybrid.... He was so sweet though! I would love to own a Chinese, Syrian or Campbell’s one day!

So lovely hearing about all your past hammies, and it shows how very different they all can be personality-wise. What got me into hamsters? A boyfriend had a hamster many years ago and the hamster came with him when we moved in together! I became very attached. The hamster free-roamed and used to sit on the end of my dressing gown.

Years later my stepson wanted one and Charlie (Syrian) popped his little head over the side of a tank and looked at us and became ours. And mine kind of! I find them fascinating and interesting and nice small pets. And very lovable.

A species I haven't owned? It would be nice to have a Chinese

Hi all i hope you're all really well,

Today's post is of course going to be about my last two dwarfs.

The first little guy i adopted from a person and he was part of an accidental litter. i had the choice between him and his sister but he's the one who stole my heart. I named him Tetris and he was the first hamster i had that actually liked to burrow, he was friendly and incredibly tame.

The second little one was called Crimson and i actually adopted him from my college since they were moving to a new building and adopting out most of their small animals. I'd fallen in love with Crimson awhile back and would always be watching him in college when i could so of course i brought him home. He was never too friendly as he was a bit of a nipper but he did enjoy attention and playtime.

Tomorrow i'll show you all my current hams and some information on them, also are the collages im posting okay or should i do individual photos?

Todays QOTD is: do you collect anything?
I personally collect erasers (i have over 100), as well as teddies.

Your last two dwarfs are so adorable! Tetris is just so cute in that picture of him on your hand! Crimson is just to cute. I love both their colorings! Can’t wait to see your current hams! I’m enjoying seeing the four photos, I think you should keep doing the multiple photos.

Do you collect anything: Yes, I actually collect little owl and other bird figurings. Right now, I have seven.
