Smile Meet Georgia!

I went to one of our local pet stores around an hour ago and I picked up a new hammy...
I don't have my camera with me at the moment, but there will be pictures this week. She's a long haired panda hamster. but she isnt fully black and white, the black is more of a dark gray. Her name is Georgia and she is already pretty hand tame. I've been hoping to get a new one since my beloved 2 and a half year old dwarf hamster, Nancy died on Christmas day...

This store, Pet Supermarket, is really an awful place. I stopped going there when I got a hamster there with wet tail, and Dewey's mother was also from there and she was pregnant at the store -.-
They had all the girls and boys in one tank, and it was a super small tank. They were all black and white except for two. One was cinnamon banded but she had what looked like wet tail, and there was a yellow banded with a sore on her back. I swear, I will not use that store again, but it is the only one in my area with Syrian hamsters!
Georgia was the only one comfortable with me holding her, and she came right up to me, unlike the others.

And they had the black syrians priced more than the regular long haired ones... I wasn't gunna say anything to the people since I'm only 13, and who believes a 13 year old... Anyway, I'm really happy with her. She's got her cheeks stuffed with tissue, making a nest.

What worries me though is that all the girls and boys were in one tank. There were around 15, so I'm assuming they were all siblings. She looks really young, she's still the size of a full grown dwarf hamster. Babies can't get pregnant, can they? She is kind of plump, but they all looked like that, so I didn't think anything of it...

Syrian Hamsters can get pregnant from as young as 4 weeks old, if Georgia was in with her brothers and sisters, then there is a strong possibility that she may be pregnant. Also as some of the other hamsters appeared to have wet tail then there is a possibility that Georgia may develop it too, I'm not sure if there is anything that you can do to prevent it but I'm sure someone with more experience will be along soon.

Our young females usually start to 'stand' at around 5 weeks of age so it is ceratinly possible for her to be pregnant. You may have got away with with it in that males are usually slower to mature so they are less likely to have mated her.
All you can do is take care that you give her plenty good food and extra protein and keep her as stress free as possible.
I would not have bought one from a tank with wet tail in it TBH and you must keep her isolated from Dewey just in case she develops it. Watch her very closely and the first sign of anything runny take her to the vet for antibiotics.
Also selling her to a 13yr old is not good practice. Were your parents with you?
She may be a dark grey banded / silver grey banded / sable banded / golden banded as all these can look quite greyish.
Once you have had her for 16 days if no babies arrive then you can be sure she was not pregnant.
You can give her a quarter teaspoon of live yogurt once a day to try and keep her bowel healthy but no more than that. Give plenty dry hamster food and once a day a fingernail sized piece of either egg, chicken, tofu or some fruit or veg. No more than this till you see her tummy is OK. If you overdo fresh food at this stage you can get runny bottoms.
I hope she is OK and remember strict hygine when handling between the two. Keep in different rooms and keep their food / bedding etc separate for at least 3 weeks. Wash hands and wear an aprop when handling her if need be other wise change clothes.

I looked up a few images of hamsters with wet tail and I am now positive that none of the others in the tank had it. Since they had long hair, they may have just walked in some pee or something, the cage really was fowl...

And yes, my dad was with me, so I wasn't buying it by myself, that is never allowed as there has to be a parent signature on the form when buying the hamster...

Also, I'm afraid she has a cold. Every time she stops running on her wheel, she starts sneezing uncontrollably. I'm keeping her far away from Dewey!
