Default How old was your oldest Syrian?

How old was your oldest Syrian when it passed? Mine is now 2 years and 3 months old and was wondering what's the oldest I could realistically expect him to live, if he continues to stay healthy. He's so precious to me and want him to live a few more months yet

I have only ever had one hamster but my Syrian boy is around 2 and a half years old and has just made it through a second surgery. He seems to be healing quite well and we are hoping he will live a good few months more before his time comes.
I suppose how long a hamster lives depends on many factors; genetics, diet, their living space and general care. You could do everything perfectly and still have a breeder hamster pass away quite young from illness or have a pet shop ham live on for 3 years or more.
The vet that I go to generalises that a healthy hamster has an average lifespan of around 3 years, maybe a little less. I do believe I saw a post from someone on the forum a while back who had a hamster that was nearly 4 years old and still going strong! Anything over 2 and they are considered to be 'senior'

my oldest is name Syrian lived to be 5 years and 4ish months. His name was 'little one'. He was a little sweety
He was actually my first hamster.

I got him when I was 4 and had him till I was 10. I remember my mum being very surprised.

Even though I was young I took very good care of him and needed little help.

He sadly passed away on the first day at my new school.

He had a long and happy life, and because he was so amazing hamsters have been my go to ever since

My longest living Syrian was Sherbet and she was 2 years and 3/4months old when she was helped to the bridge.

From looking online I found according to the Guinness Book of World Records that the longest hamster every to live was 4 1/2 years. However usually Syrians typical live to around 1 1/2 to 2 1/2 years but some do live longer.

Our last Syrian passed at 2 years 8 months and had to helped on his way. Previous one many years before died at 2 during surgery for a lump on his neck.

Some Syrians do live until 3 but it isn't so common. xxx
