I have a new pet and I'm very exited about it!

Hello everyone.

I brought home a new little Syrian hamster today, adopted form my local Pets at Home. I went in there wanting a baby but then he looked at me with his little pink eyes and picked me. The store think he's at least a year old, he was brought in by a family who couldn't take care of him any more but I don't know too much more than that. He's very tame (I held him in the store but of course I'm leaving him alone for a couple of days now he's home) and very sweet. I'm watching him explore his new home and run in his wheel as I type.

I owned a hamster as a teenager (half my life ago almost!) but didn't have any more pets until today. My housemate finally said I could get a hamster, so I did!

He had a girls name (for a little boy? Not sure why!) but I've changed it now.

Say hello to Fitz! I took this photo in the carrier on the way home on the train. I'll get some better ones when I start to handle him once he's settled in.

Oh, and if you know what show I got his name from I like you a lot.

I’m sure he’s going to have a lovely time in your home. As for the name... could it possibly be the band “Fitz and the Tantrums”? I actually named one of my pets “Tantrum” after them

Aww, congrats on getting your darling Fitz; I always think it is so sweet that you both chose each other! It's wonderful that he is already very tame. He looks so adorable, and I hope that the two of you create many wonderful memories together. Btw, did you name him after Leopold Fitz, the awesome S.H.I.E.L.D. agent and scientist who fell in love with and married Jemma Simmons, from the TV series Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.? If so, I totally LOVE the series, and my two favorite characters on the show are Leo Fitz and Phil Coulson.

Correct! I’m a little bit obsessed with that show!

I’ve had him for 2 weeks now without problems. He's with being handled but I don’t think he likes it exactly! I bought stuff to make a play pen for him which should come next week which will be more interesting for both of us and hopefully get him more used to me handling him. He has plenty of toys in his cage but he mostly ignores them. He doesn’t seem to want to chew anything but I’m sure he will if he feels he needs to right? He’s not shy whenever I put my hands in the cage, he takes food from me and doesn’t seem afraid to get on with things when I’m in the room or have the TV on or anything, he’s not timid.

I noticed last night he has a tiny little hole in one of his ears so I’ve decided he’s a secret punk!!

I'm glad that Fitz is confident and adjusting really well. It is wonderful that he is willing to have your hands in his cage and being hand fed, too. Lol, Fitz being a secret punk!
