I missed the question about the favourite song. And having been around for a very long time I find it hard too! There are so many and they change with different phases of life and ages - and I actually do have a playlist! My first "favourite song" (and this really dates me lol) was when I was 10 "White Horses" by Jackie - and it's still special. Recently I heard a song on the radio from the 60s - a lesser known one but it wowed me at the time (we did dance drama to it at school) and it has been played 3 times this week! And I think it's a powerful song and shame it's not remembered more. "Eloise" by Paul and Barry Ryan. Couldn't say it was my favourite ever song though. I also have some big favourites in Spanish and French pop music which are very different and also in Scottish folk music!

But if I had to choose one favourite song over everything else it would be Led Zeppelin's "The Battle of Evermore". Most people choose Stairway to Heaven but the Battle of Evermore always made me think of mystical things like the Lord of the Rings and the singing is beautiful.

Sorry -I'm such an oldie Lol. The nice thing I found though is suddenly all your favourites from different eras and experiences make an interesting and eclectic playlist

So if I could have categories then:

Rock - The Battle of Evermore - Led Zeppelin
Folk - Green Grow the rushes 'o'
Scottish folk - Marie's wedding (drums version!)
Pop - too difficult to choose
Non English - Me llaman Calle - Manu Chao

Thank you all for sharing your favorite tunes! It's awesome to see all the different musical eras present!

A bit of an unrelated question, but have the forums slowed down a bit? They seem a bit less... bustling as compared to when I first joined. They seem to have further slowed from when I went on hiatus I'm not here enough to conclusively tell. Life is crazy for me right now, but I do try to pop in daily.

Today I will share some rodent pics! Not hamsters, but two lovely gerbs- Ginger and Sheeni. Most of you are familiar with Ginger, who is going to be about... 3? Later this year. I adopted her when she was 7-8 months old, and will have had her for 2 years. She's my little love, and I'm quite attached to her, despite the fact that she doesn't like me all that much I rescued her about 2 years ago, from a crowded 10 gallon tank with about 10 other gerbils. They had a messy water dish, and were skinny. I took her and her (now passed) sister home with me, and they lived peacefully in their own 20 gallon. Mitzi, her sister, died last year of an illness which swept through my home, sadly taking out all my animals. After a few months of being solo, I brought Sheeni home, and the two have lived happily ever since.

and sweet little Ginger (who hates the camera lol)

today's QOTD: What's your worst habit?

I'd say mine is probably procrastinating, or avoiding situations that need to be addressed. Two bad habits I really should work on!

Lovely to see your gerbils Drago, it's really good to see that Ginger has company & is getting on well with Sheeni after losing her sister.

The forum has been a bit quieter than usual lately, it always seems to vary from time to time though.

Worst habit... not sure I even want to think about that lol!

Ginger and Sheeni are lovely The summer weather is probably meaning it's quieter.

My worst habit is probably ignoring housework lol.

Aww, Ginger and Sheeni are very cute! It is so terrible that the illness took so many of your beloved pets but, thankfully, both of these precious gerbils found a great companion in one another.

I believe the fluctuation in activity on HC is probably due to it being summer in many counties and many members are probably enjoying vacations or the outdoors.

I am not quite sure if you would consider this necessarily as being a bad habit, but it is something that has given me much grief and heartache for many years. I have an EXTREMELY forgiving heart, and I tend to give people the benefit of the doubt and make excuses for them regardless of how many times someone shows that they will do things that are very, VERY hurtful to me. I don't actually think this is a bad thing typically, but I tend to take it to the extreme and often find myself being in very painful situations by those who most people wouldn't let back into their lives to begin with. It is something that has given me so much pain over the years, and I am striving to work at it but, sadly, I still have a long way to go in not always being the victim of those who don't have my best interest in mind.

Good day all! Hope you all are doing well

Today I will share my new (betta) spawning area. I may share my older one, along with some growing fry toward the end of the month, if they'll cooperate The new spawn area still needs several more tanks, heaters, and live food. However, I could probably raise a batch or two on the equipment I have now. I'm just a perfectionist when it comes to raising these guys!

Webp.net-resizeimage (14).jpg
These are brine shrimp eggs and catappa leaves (AKA Indian almond leaves). The brine shrimp eggs will grow once introduced to water, and the correct amount of salt, heat, light, and oxygen. Another name that they're more commonly known by is "Sea monkeys". They make excellent food for the betta fry. The IAL is a wonderful leaf that can be added to aquariums. It stimulates breeding, heals wounds, and softens the water. It's a miracle leaf really!

Webp.net-resizeimage (15).jpg
These are sponge filters. They're used in aquariums with fry as regular filters will suck them up, and kill them These filters prevent that from happening, while still keeping debris low, and the water quality in check.

Here's the setup so far

Today's QOTD: Have you ever owned a betta fish?

Your betta spawing area looks interesting and hope to see your older setup, too. I would also absolutely love to see your betta fish fry if they are cooperative enough to have you capture some pics of them, lol. I am so excited for you that your betta breeding is going so well. I have had a sea monkey tank setup for me to raise them to feed to my past ciclids and bettas. I have also had IAL in the tanks and really appreciated what a wonderful plant this is.

Drago, what types of betas do your raise? Do you have a specific color beta that is your favorite? How long have you been breeding them?

Although it is so obvious by now that my answer to the QOTD is YES, I will go ahead and elaborate with a few more details though just in case you are interested. I have had both males and females. The types that I had were halfmoon, delta, super delta, rose tail, veil tail, crowntail, and over halfmoon. I never bred any of them, although I always thought it would be quite a wonderful experience. I do not currently have any pet bettas; I must admit that I often find myself tempted to get another one though every time I pass these gorgeous beauties at a pet store, lol. I really do love bettas and think they are marvelous fish.

Goodness you are an expert in aquarium life! I can imagine it can make you perfectionist as you need to get things right so your fish survive.

Dreamtree - you so clearly have a wonderful kind nature and big heart and there will always be people who will take advantage of this - the key is to listen to your instincts and protect yourself xxx If you do a kindness and it isn't returned or that person then hurts you - then they are not worth further kindnesses. I found an assertiveness book helped me many years ago - to politely say no to some people.

Dreamtree I focus on Halfmoons Currently, I'm trying to get my form solid before I focus too much on color. However, I work with blue primarily, to simplify the colors and genes. With this new setup, I may choose to work with plakats, or I may just stick with HM's and see if I can cross lines at some point, as a bit of an experiment. As for my favorite color... maybe the same color of my first breeding male, Ashton. He was a beautiful bluish purple. I've never seen another betta so beautiful as he. Sadly, he ended up having a fair bit of red wash, so he only sired one batch. I've been breeding bettas off and on for about 4 years now

Breeding is a wonderful experience, but definitely not for the faint of heart (and wallet). I've sunk thousands on breeding setups, quality breeders, food, tanks, equipment, etc. It's also so tricky as we know very little about betta genetics, making breeding more of a phenotypical guessing game than a calculated crossing. Though if you have time, some money, and patience, I absolutely recommend. It's an amazing experience, and one I have learned so much from.

Serendipityaww thank you, much appreciated! I've been fishkeeping for 11+ years now so all my knowledge comes from years of trial and error, research, and mistakes I've bred other species of fish, and I used to show guppies some years back.

Today, I will show you my two Leopard Geckos, Draco and Teep (major bonus points if you know the obscure series the name "Teep" comes from). I adopted Draco four years ago, and he has been by my side ever since. He's a picky little guy, and refuses to eat most foods, meaning he's struggled to gain and keep weight his whole life. I purchased him as a tiny baby, and now he's as big as my hand. Sadly, he's blind in one eye, but still carries on.

Teep was bought from a breeder about a year and a half ago. He was born with one less toe on his front leg, interestingly enough. He's not very friendly, and would much rather bite and screech at you than be held He's much sweeter to watch, from a distance.

This is Draco

and little Teep. He seems to be skinnier than usual lately, so I'll need to up his food a bit

Today's QOTD: Have a pet peeve?

For me, it's probably people who are very closed-minded
